Interesting article.
I know the army is starting to incorporate BJJ into it's combatives program. In fact, they are currently doing a re-write of the entire physical training manual. -
Man I hope so....
When I was at Benning, we went through the "self defense" training. It was super weak.
First thing outta the drill instructors mouth was "Don't even think you can take this anywhere and use it."
Are they teaching pure BJJ or are they incorporating a hybrid program based on BJJ?Comment

My students brother is the guy in charge of rewriting the Army Ranger training manual. He's been into the gym to train several times. It is heavily based on BJJ. I'll be getting a copy of the manual shortly and will pass on more details then.Comment

For the most part it is pure BJJ. An NCO I know at Ft. Stewart went to Benning for the Combatives certification and the instructor was a definite BJJ guy that we at a competition up at Jacare's place in Atlanta.
By the same token though, the Army combatives system is not fully fleshed out and at least at Stewart it incorporates some stand-up too.
So I guess it is more like a hybrid but it has enough pure BJJ to make most happy.
