If the Northern Alliance allows the taliban/ al qedda (sic) to surrender and walk away we should just nuke the whole country (slight exaggeration). We should, however, take matters into our own hands and bomb them as they try to leave the country. These people are an ongoing , very serious threat to the USA and the free-world in general and absolutely must not be allowed to go free. If the NA allows this they are certainly no longer our allies. This is not the time to be nice. We need to be ruthless and crush these bastards!!!

Watch out for the Northern Alliance...
I can see these guys also being a thorn in your side in the near future. The whole scenario is complicated and I'd hate to be trying to put together a government there. Maybe another US puppet regime ? (Until that comes back to bite you - Guaranteed !)
Almost a no win situation unless you take Mad Dog's extreme approach. :-)

The Talabin who are Afgani should be allowed to surrender.Imprisoned by their own countymen.
The extremists that are there from other countries are nothing more than hired mercinairies fighting exclusively for Bin Laden.
They will be executed.
That is why they are killing Afgan Talabin who try to surrender.
They have nothing to lose. They are dead men and they know it.
If someone came from another country to the USA and commited these kind of acts upon our people,do you really think we would allow them just to leave unharmed when we regained control?
You would hate and imprison your cousins and relatives who sided with them and esentually became traitors of the U.S.
But the foreign invaders would have to be executed.
After all, they are an invading army. And we cant feed, clothe and house an entire army for the rest of their lives.

If only it was that simple Dan. "Taliban" are the "students" - their beliefs extend to areas outside of what the media presents at the moment as being "anti-American". Their train of thought comes from teaching in Pakistan - The same country now supporting you. (Who by the way are only doing it to clear their monetary debt to you like other nations in the gulf war who let you build bases. Do you think they would do it for any other reason - no f**king way ! - everyone hates the US there in the middle east !)
Don't confuse what happened in NY with the whole ideals of the Taliban. They are not Bin Laden.... they are just a group who happen to house him who probably now wish they did not.
My point was that the Northern Alliance are probably no better. Just look at their reaction when they took Kabul - "We don't want foreigners in our country !" - How ungrateful is that from an army of misfits who probably would have had no success ever without the US, UK intervention.
Now the Aussies have been brought in to clean up the remains - Bin Laden. They arrived today. The Aussie special forces have been rated the best in the world. (BTW - the US Seals, Green Berets etc came in about fifth best fighting force in the world so no wonder they called our boys in to do the real work ! :-))

Of course nothing is that simple.Especially when religion and politics are concerned. The Alliance never wanted the U.S. over there. We are pretty much (using) the alliance as a tool to get what we want. They know this and (used) us to get what they want. Now that they are getting close to their goal, they dont need us anymore.I wouldnt doubt it if they were just as happy as most over there to see the U.S. get hit like it was. They are concerned with their own plight and have little or no concern for what happens over here.
The Talabin are hated by the Afgan people. The point I want to make is that this is and always has been a religious war.
I would use our civil war as an example.(Different reasons for fighting between our own people). But I would compare the foreigners the same as the French ,Spanish and others who got involved in our civil war for their own political gains.
This is why we and the U.N. are insisting that the new government be represented by all factions and groups in Afganistan.Their history has been clear as to the way they treat each other,no matter who is in power.
But ,ultimately our goal is to squash the Talabin and capture Bin Laden and his cronies.I doubt very much if the Alliance gives as much concern about actually getting Bin Ladden as we do .They just want him and his followers gone.Exept the foreigners who they feel invaded their county.
I am no expert on these things, just base my opinions on what info I have. And who says we are getting the whole truth?

The Northern Alliance are no better than the Taliban. They are low life scum that are just as crazy. America would be wise to use them for what they are worth and then drive them back to the North and put in a UN backed caretaker government.
Regretably this entire war on Afghanistan is nothing more than showboating and chest puffing by the U.S. . America could not be seen to do nothing about the Sept 11 attacks so the Taliban became the perfect scapegoat. Americas victory over these primitive camel jockeys is a hollow one. It will not stop terrorism in the slightest.
And despite what you read in the news. They have no idea where Osama Bin Laden is.

Actually, the Northern Alliance has a personal score to settle w/ Bin Laden, because it was he who sent two assassins masquerading as television journalist to kill Ahmed Shah Massoud, the Alliance's charasmatic leader. Massoud was killed in a suicide attack on September 9 as he began what he believed was an interview with two television journalists.Last edited by Zhoozhitsu; 11-26-2001, 01:41 PM.

Thanks Zhoo,I am like most people in the U.S.
Never cared what was happening or who was doing what over there untill Sept 11th.The fighting has been going on between all these people for so long, and gets kinda complicated.Who did what to whom and when and what they did to retaliate. It does seem like a way of life for that part of the world. But,Sept 9th isnt exactally old news.I should have known that.

Dan you aren't like most people in the U.S. Most people in the U.S. still don't know a whole lot about foreign affairs, even after the September 11 attacks. Heck, most people in the U.S. don't know enough about their own government to make an informed choice when they go to the voting booths. As long as taxes are low and the economy is in good shape, most people in any country could care less about much else.
It's all because of the "Selfish Gene".
