I teach all "related and practical" elements. On some courses I provide the actual statutes from the attorney generals website.

I believe all that information would be handy to have for somone who would likely be in a self defense situation. I keep trying to find it in our state laws.

      Thanks Demi,

carrying a stick maybe illegal - how bout a cane, a broom,a mop, ,a baseball bat, a pool stick, a hocket stick, a squigy thing....the list goes on - sticks are one of the most, if not the most, important weapon to know how to use and defend against

          Here's one for ya...

In Ca if you cut a broom in half and wrap some tape on one end for a handle and put it under your bed, that's a felony. If you call the cops because you have a prowler or what not and they found that they would take you to jail.

You would lose your right to vote and own a firearm.

There is a reason for all this legal maddness though...

As long as it is not against the law to wear shoes on your hands, Mushi will be ok....

So what would happen if they found my metal nunchakus and my katana?

Instant felony. Lose your right to vote... Lose your right to own a firearm.

                Probation and maybe jail.

In Idaho, as backwards as you all know we are, you are still allowed to own knives, swords and guns. Provided you do not have a felony record. With a hunting license you can carry one on your hip down to the coffee shop. Although it doesn't happen often, it is still legal.

CCW laws are pretty strict however. The state government is still under the illusion that we are responsible adults.... imagine that.

What if I'm not old enough to vote, own a firearm, or go to jail?

Geez, and I thought the liquor laws here in Pennsylvania were screwed up. If I was in CA, I'd be public enemy #1.

the law is on the books for weapons like Nunchuks or nunchakus.
But most law enforcement officers won't enforce this law unless you're a jerk or dick with an attitude.
Anytime you show attitude, that is almost an instant roust to see if they can take you to jail. If you are polite and don't cause any problems, you won't have any trouble.

Back when I was in high school, we used to have metal shop and we used to make the throwing stars from the scarp sheet metal. Apparently some people found our stars around school and went to the metal shop teacher and he knew who was behind the manufacture of these.
He was cool and came up to me and asked that I stop making them. In my wood shop class I wanted to make my own pair of nunchuks and asked my teacher but he said no. So I went to the local wood shop near one of my friend's house. I went in and talked to the shop manager and told him I needed some table legs and they were needed to be certain specifications.
I showed him the dimensions and he said "oh, you want me to make NON chucks" laughed and said sure.
I still have that pair under my bed right now along with my shot gun and other guns.
                        Prowler or strange noise outside:
Hmmm, nunchuks or my shot gun?
                        not a tough choice.
The tell tale sound of using the slide to insert a shotgun shell into the chamber is a noise no burglar or hoodlum wants to hear.
Same with the bolt action of a fully automatic rifle.
I've posted this before, if you want to fire a fully automatic submachine gun, go to any of the gun ranges in Las Vegas. they will rent an assortment of submachine guns. They aren't cheap to rent though, but what a blast (HA).

Ya know... nunchucks are a huge no no in Ca.

Incidentally, I had to take a guy out with a pair to protect my father when I was in high school. Some idiot kicked our front door in and had my dad on the ground and was choking him. I pulled those things out from under my bed and went to town on the guy. He went running as fast as he could.

The cops showed up a few minutes later. No one pressed charges but they took the chucks. They were an awesome pair too.

Funny how the cops often show up "after" the crime has been completed and look to take away your implements of self defense.

I read somewhere (on the internet...) that cops are not bound to protect everyone from crime. Statistically it is impossible for the government to protect everyone all the time. So why is it that if you are an upstanding citizen with no record they make it very difficult to legally defend yourself.

There is an article in the Washington Times where cops are showing up and siezing weapons from people who have convictions from more than 20 years ago (small stuff). Any reason at all and we will send in the storm troopers. First the second amendment, then all the others.

The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades....

hey thanks sweepem and Demi Barbito, we got the same rule on nunchakus up here in NY, but it is not enforced unless an incident occurs.

Back in my show-off TKD days, I used to perform with the nunchakus at demonstrations in public, infront of cops!! They didn't say anything...

We don't have as many worries as you LA guys out here, don't even lock the doors 'cept at night! I hope your dad didn't get hurt, and sweepem, doing that stuff in school is asking for trouble - there was a kid who took one of my friend's weapons and put them in his locker at school (which despite the name, they always seem to be unlocked where I come from) - my friend got suspended, whamo, just like that! Lucky to be let back into school...for doing nothing, really!
