What's the difference between submission wrestling and bjj? Which is more dominant?

  • #2
Ninjitsu Dim Mak is the most dominant. Don't waste your time with BJJ, GJJ, submission wrestling or any of this other nonsense. Just go to my website at www.imaretard.com and register, pay the monthly fee, and you will know all there is to know about the art of self defense.

The traditional difference was that BJJ emphasizes position first. While submission wrestling often did not.

BJJ emphasized lots and lots of time rolling. That’s why bjj guys are so good.

Now days most people have realized that position first is the only way to go, so there is not much difference. After all an armlock is an armlock, a choke is a choke, the mount is the mount, the guard is the guard, and a foot lock is a foot lock. It doesn't matter whether you call it BJJ or submission wrestling or sambo or whatever

I think the lines between the two are blurring everyday. However, there are two important differences:

        1) BJJ uses a gi at some point in the training. Although most BJJ styles now train some percentage without gis.

        2) There is rank in BJJ. A BB can take upto 10-15 years, while most submission wrestlers have no rank.

I have to disagree with soho because I think submission wrestling has always emphasized position, like BJJ, but I think it emphasizes being on and staying on top rather than being on your back like in the guard. A wrestler doesn't care as much if they are in your guard just as long as they are on top and controlling you.
