  • Leglocks in BJJ

do you guys ever use leglocks in streetfighting. I saw a cool leg attack series on www.leglocks.com but don't know if it is realistic.

Although I've never had an opportunity to use a leglock in a real fight, I think in some situations they could be very effective. In general, being in a position where you can grab a guys leg isn't a good thing, but if you do find yourself in that position, it's nice to have a few weapons at your disposal. I've trained with Val Ignatov, a Sambo expert and UFC fighter, and I think the most useful thing I've learned is how to escape from leglocks!!

Leglocks are great, but they usually are done from a neutral or fluid situation. Unlike armlocks and most chokes which are done after you imobilize your opponent. Therefore, I reccomend that you take a leglock if it is staring you in the face but you shouldn't "go" for it. Just my opinion. anyone else want to chime in?

I think leglocks are kind of a last resort in streetfighting. Unlike armbars where you can just break/hyper-extend then roll off, when you execute a leglock you're pretty tangled up with your opponent AND lying down. This makes you wide open to some stomps from his drunken buddies.
