I wouldn't exactly call the Machado or Caique Academies generic. Not to bring up the past, but the Machado team did do a number on the Torrance Gracie Academy in their own tournament. The Gracie Academy is a good place to learn, but now the options out there are great for So. Cal BJJ practitioners.
