I got a big boxing match in a week and if I win then I'll be moved up a rank. It's not an organized league, just a neighborhood thing, but I can earn an easy reputation by winning our version of the the belt. Let me just get straight to the point. If anybody has any boxing pointers then speak up.

The most common mistake I see is an extended, untucked chin while boxing. This has been my observation while watching primarily untrained fighters. Compare untrained vs. trained strikers and I think you will see this too.
1) Keep your chin tucked.
I also see a lot of strikers standing toe to toe duking it out with each other. When you do this you expend massive amounts of energy and don't accomplish much of anything without luck. A general rule of thumb is to strike in two to three move combinations. Then either move inside his range or outside his range and let his counterstrikes miss or land without focus.
2) Three strikes and move.
3) Stay out of your opponents "range."
And the king of all, condition. Lack of conditioning and stamina is all too often the bane of a good striker. When you gas your hands start to fall and this opens of all kinds of avenues for your opponent.
4) condition, condition, condition.
5) keep your hands (defense) up at ALL times.
But that is simply my opinion, as an untrained boxer, and based on obeservation.
Good luck,
SZ
