  • Gracies are still the best fighters

I know the Gracies haven't been enjoying to much success in todays "mixed martial arts"(whatever that is), but I believe in no rules, no standups, no time limt the Gracies are still the best. Esp. Royce and Rickson, because they haven't strayed to far from the teachings of their father Helio Gracie. I've been making trips to the Gracie Academy in Torrance since 1993, Although I haven't been there in almost 2 years. I've trained with Rickson, Royce, Royler, and Rorian, and they are all incredible, especially Ricksons and it pains me when they don't get the respect they deserve.

    no longer the best fighters.

they do deserve respect and recognition for introducing all of us to submission fighting and they get this on a daily basis. no one denies this.

If you are talking about Helio's sons. There is Rorion, Relson, Rickson, Rolker, Royler, Royce, Robin. Aside from this side of the family, there are other tremendous fighters amongst this group. All family members. and all tough fighters. I am and always will be a huge Gracie supporter, but there are alot of great fighters out there, to say they are the "best" might not be the most true statement. Granted Rickson, Royce and Royler have put it on the line, and have done extremely well, but the world either has or is gonna catch up.

The Gracies are awesome and the martial arts world owes them a huge debt for showing what real fighting is all about. I'm a fan of them for life and a GJJ stylist myself. But none of them would be considered a top fighter in their weight class and certainly not against bigger submission fighters. Their skill is unquestioned but there are two many skilled fighters out their who are also gifted athletes, which tips the scales away from the Gracies. The only seemingly genetically gifted Gracie is Rickson; he hasn't fought anybody of note, and is getting older by the day! I know I'm mixing my MMA opinions with true NHB but I believe my points are relevant in either arena.

The Gracies ARE the best.......... family at mma competition. But, they aren't by any means the best mma fighters. It's kind of like this: If you had to randomly fight a male from Sakuraba's family or a random male from the Gracie family, which would you choose?

Yes, the Gracie are not the best now, because the rules of "MMA" . No time limits, NO BULLSHIT STAND-UPS, and the Gracie still rule the roost. Under current UFC rules, Royce would have probably lost to Severn.

yeah, yeah... royce was my first bjj teacher. i got my blue from him.

as for fighting with limiting rules... he fought sak with minimal rules and got handled by sak pretty damn well. sak was never in any trouble. royce had his hands full the entire fight. i was there. saw it live, in japan.

Yeah I'm so sure you saw it live in Japan Royce tapped Sakuraba out, and Sak would have gone to sleep but he was saved by the bell. No bell= for Sak

I agree wholeheartedly with your picking a random family member comment! However, I don't think the whole no-time limit/ stand-up rule thing would really matter much these days.
