Why would a guy training six days a week for 3 years still be white belt? And a blue belt who regularly taps browns and sometimes blacks? Are Ralph's standards ridiculously high?

No. Other people's standards are too low.

Im sure every one here will agree. Im just saying bulking up will help! Just because skinny guys can beat big guys dosen't man anything. But remeber when bulking up make sure to keep fit and your endurance levels high.

        TECHNIQUE ALWAYS BEATS BRUTE STRENGTH

But that doesn't mean that if your have a heavy build your going to stink. In fact it will make you better if you have good technique.

Finding big guys, preferably bigger guys to roll with can be a challenge at some gyms. We've got a 400 lb judo black belt that, man, if he gets on top I'm screwed because I can't breathe.

Weight and strength is over rated by those who do not train. But it is under rated by many of those who do.

Double Royce Gracie's strength and see for yourself whether or not he is a better fighter.

But, as has been said, cardio is probably the major factor fitness wise.

Yep, I agree. However, weight can be a consideration at times. We have a guy who needed to drop quite a bit of weight to make his 147 lb weight class. He dropped down to 7% body fat and still had to loose more to make weight. He did make weight at 5% body fat, but he was also pretty drained from all the last minute cardio and dieting at a time when he should have been resting up and healing up before the fight. He just wasn't rested up like he should have been.

I think the strategy with this guy will be to go up a weight class. In other words, massive circuit training for the next six to seven months.

i read in some books that anything under like 7% body fat was considered "unhealthy". you need a little bit for vitamin storage and insulation

Bruce was no ordinary man. As for isulation and vitimins. You dont need that in modern society because we have warm cloths, heaters, abundant food ect.

But fat is a good source of energy, and by no way am I saying get rid of all your fat. Im just saying my opinion.

no, i mean certain vitamins are fat soluble. so if you have very little to no fat, they could build to toxic levels because you run out of places to store them. and yes, even in modern society you need a certain percentage of body fat to be considered "healthy"

Meaning no offence to anyone, but I'm not sure Bruce can be cranked up to be some kind of healthy perosn to be emulated. Fit, yes. Healthy? I doubt it.

My view is that his body could not keep pace with his training regime. I know it is desirable to be "cut", but he was way too thin. And he didn't exactly live to a ripe old age did he?

No offence, but he burned himself out.
