C'mon, Dragon. You know you'd pull guard. And while you were swallowed up in the fleshpool, swim out the side and take backmount! Straight to rear choke! HA!

Just pack a snorkel, cuz drowning in fat sucks....

seriously, the only way I see to beat this guy in a judo match would be a low single takedown, and finish with a choke. Just don't let him grab you, cuz he might eat you...

come on, you bunch of fruits, someone give me some feedback!

You are not allowed to use a single leg takedown in Judo. You have a serious lack of knowledge.

        How's that for feedback?

(_Y_) <====kiss it, Bri, you rude bastard.

I heard you could use singles and doubles, but they won't end a match, but I guess I was misinformed.

          Asshole.

          ::EDIT:: typo...

            Was that "misinformed" or "malformed"?

Anyway, I was trying to help you with your boring thread. You all scared now you no longer have big bad Rorny and Dragon to make you feel like one of the gang?

I suggest you just lurk a while. That way you might one day know enough to make useful contributions to the forum.

You have a serious lack of knowledge.

No single legs in Judo? That's weird, coz at this judo club I go to now and then, the instructor gets frustrated trying to throw me, and he shoots in and gets something that looks a lot like a single leg. But I don't know very much judo. Maybe it's a different move.

No leg takedowns are allowed in the competition, but no doubt they are practiced as they are so effective.

In Ne Waza (groundwork) you are only allowed to armlock on the elbow as well as choke/strangle. No doubt many Judoka also practice wrist locks, neck cranks, foot locks etc. But none of them are allowed in competition.

Another funny thing about Judo is their version of a hold down. You could have an opponent totally helpless on his back, but if he has even the flimsiest half guard on you, the hold down is not valid and the ref will stand you both up.

In my view this is why BJJ is a much better option for real fighting, as they did not drag their art down by a multitude of rules, so they have so many more options to choose from on the ground.

Paradoxically they didn't get too bothered about whether a guy landed on his back when thrown, as the fight goes on regardless. hence they have much less in the way of throwing (or "takedowns). In BJJ they quite literally have more of what you need, and less of what you don't.

But I still rate Judo. It has been underrated for years, as various Karate and Kung Fu practitioners disregarded it, thinking their punches and kicks would keep a Judoka at bay. Now we know the truth.

As with all sports, the added rules are there to protect the judoka. The locks/chokes rules were added because too many jodoka were ending up with broken arms from standing locks.

Actually, in 101 Ippons, they show Kaoli Yamaguchi scoring an Ippon in competition with a single-leg takedown after her opponent blocks her throw attempt.

First off, single and double leg take downs are in Judo. A false attack however will earn you a Shito (penalty).

Back to the original question. How to deal with a much larger opponent.

Assuming that you have a little agility a better plan might be to wait for an attack by your 650 pounder and counter. Watch out for Hiza or Sassi (sp?) as a 650 pounder can probably just move you around like a rag doll. Once he starts swinging you around you are liable to have a leg blocked and have him land right on top of your chest.

Another potential is to deliberatly fail with a tamoanagi, shift your hips and apply an armbar will he is still standing. It is highly unlikely that your 650 pounder will cartwheel out of the technique so he will be standing right above you with his arm extended. This is practiced more in BJJ, however it is a perfectly valid transition in a Judo tournemant.

Just some ideas. Bottom line, find the biggest guy you can work with and see what works and what doesn't. It's all theory unless you can make it work.

                      All the Best,

Against a hudge guy like that would foot to foot sweeps be a good idea?

                          Sweeping the big guy

Big guys have a tendancy not to move very much. To sweep you need to get him moving which is unlikely unless he wants to. one of your best foot sweep attack would be when your opponent is walking backwards. De ashi bari his retreating leg into his planted leg. This may be enough to off balance your opponent.

Again the foot sweep counter may make more sense. Big 650 pound guys do not move very fast and they know it. It is likely that he will sweep at your legs if for nothing else to show some offence. Looking for the counter may be valid.
