  • Ultimate BJJ question: under-shirt or no under-shirt?

Yes, I feel it's time to finally bring the ancient undershirt question to the fore-front of this forum.

I am of course referring to the wearing of an undershirt underneath your gi when you roll. It seems to me this is becoming more and more common.

I personally do not wear an undershirt. The last thing I want is another piece of clothing getting soaked with sweat and slowing me down. Also, when I was taking judo lessons the instructor specifically said that females were allowed to wear undershirts while men were not.

    What about you?

I have been wearing a undershirt as of late. I'm going to one of the sports stores in town and buy some underarmor stuff. There like rash guards but keep you cooler, well at least they say they do. I'll buy one and if I like it I'll buy some more...

      Jared,

You mean you stopped wearing that night shirt under your gi?

I take it you now shave your chest again?

It depends on how hot it is, but usually I wear a shirt. Being a fat bastard that I am, I don't want noone playing with my bro.

I like wearing an undershirt because it helps to soak up some sweat and I don't have to wash my gi as often that way. Otherwise I have to wash the gi every 2x I train but with the undershirt I can use it maybe 5x or more without a wash.

            Hey Mr. Miyagi!

Do you find people tap out before you've even got a submission on them?

                lol, you guys are funny.

I remember reading in the book Secret Fighting Arts of the World, a chapter on the Halitotic Frenchman. Apparently this guy practiced the art of bad breath by eating certain herbs and specific foods, and juices, and eventually was able to knock out opponents by breathing on them. He practiced on dogs and cats and perfected his technique and eventually had no problem with humans. The author was one of his victims and was knocked out with a single wiff, he described the odor he smelled as much worse than the worst sewage he had ever smelled. Different strokes for different folks. This guy could maybe be a UFC champ, + he'd win all his matches by KO!

I wear a plain white T-shirt under my Gi.

Has anyone here ever seen someone's or had their own Gi top totally or very nearly removed during grappling? I know belts coming off and Gi tops just hanging from the shoulders often occurs, but have you been or seen someone totally stripped?

About that Killer-Breath-Jitsu, yea well it may be effective, but I reckon that guy never had a girlfriend in his life!
