In the Close Quarter Combatives they have a concept called "generic targeting". This means that they do not target a particular weak spot, rather the general area where the weak spots are.

They rarely hit to the body (which is reasonably well protected with muscle, and sometimes heavy clothing), usually attacking the area from the throat to the eye level, and from the groin to the insteps.

Their theory is like this. Consider the throat up. Weak spots include :-

          Windpipe
          Carotid artery
          Upper vertebrae
          Chin and Jaw line
          Philtrum
          Nose
          Between the eyes
          Mastoid
          Temples
          Eyes.

They train open hand blows, and then rain numerous blows to this general area. They really emphasise a vicious "hack hack hack" effort, not stopping until the opponent is out for the count. If they tried to aim each blow to a particular target, the effort of aiming would slow them down. So they hack away at the general area, knowing that a high percentage of these blows will reach a vulnerable target anyway.

This leads to three different effects. The trauma of hitting the weak point itself. The trauma to the brain, having been rocked by the head blow, and the associated trauma to the spine of having the head and neck pummelled.

The vulnerable areas in the groin and legs are not so densely packed, but a 3-4 staccato knees to the groin area, and a kick to the shins, knees and instep will hurt, bad. Then he gets the neck/head treatment again etc. etc.

The mechanics of the "chop" (they call it the Ax Hand) is difficult to describe in writing. Log into the website and see what you can pick up. The main man is called Carl Cestari, and he has a video available from the site. That really helps, as they have a different system of footwork, and a method of injecting power into strikes that I had never seen before.

I have experience in Karate, Wing Chun, Jiu Jitsu and Ground Grappling. But, in my view, I have never seen anything as impressive as the Close Quarter Combatives for real fighting.

Those are some good areas but..........

You left out the center line anywhere from the tip of your head to the nut sack is a good striking target.

Also the collarbone it takes only 8lbs of pressure to break one. Most gun triggers require more than 8lbs of pulling power from your finger to fire.

There are many areas on the body that don't require pinpoint strikes to do damage.

Would a broken collar bone really stop someone?? One of my cousins broke her collar bone several times when she was younger. A couple times she didn't even know it was broke until she went to the doctor.

In most cases a broken collarbone will stop you in your tracks.

All i can say is she must have a high threshold of pain or she broke it so much that she had severe nerve damage.

In most cases of a broken collarbone the person could not use that arm on that side.Infact put your hand on your collarbone and move the arm on the same side. You should feel a little movement everytime your arm moves.I've never heard of anyone having their collarbone broken and doing anything much less not knowing it was broken.

But like i said it could be one of the two reasons i stated above. There are some people known to have a very high threshold of pain.Meaning they could take pain that would drop most people without even flinching.

But.........these are very rare people it's not something you learn they are born this way.

I'll second BriThai on the Close Combat stuff. I also freaquent the Close Combat Forums.

To those that want more details on this type of fighting go here ->Combatives Information .

Download and read "Get Tough" and "Kill or Get Killed" these two PDF books should give you pretty much everything you need to know about the down and dirty methods of "Gutter Fighting".

Also check out this site for some real good information. www.gutterfighting.org .

Just remember there are no secrets! There's not any mystical Ninja crap here.

This is basically the Pre-WWII Judo/Jiu-Jitsu stuff before they took all the lethal stuff out of it.

You'll even see some basic chokes and other stuff you'll recognize.

The biggest difference this type Combatives has with other martial arts is that it's all offense. There's no defensive techiques, everything is geared for attacking.

The pre-emptive strike is a primary tactic. Why wait to get attacked? As soon as the enemy shows any sign of preparing to attack you destroy them with an overwhelming, forward driving attack until he is rendered harmless, unconcious or dead. It's not pretty, fancy or fair but it works if you work it!

                    Good luck and have fun!

Real nice info on the dirty tactics

                              Tony,
Very goog tricks all of them work well.

Just a bit of caution to everyone.

Just be careful with the throat.

A strike hard enough to the throat can get you a murder charge. It's an area we work on alot ,but are told not to really attack.Because it is very easy to kill someone with a strike to the throat even though you just planned to hurt them or stop them in their tracks.
