  • Judo or Boxing???

    Wassup,

I'm in a situation where I gotta take some MA or boxing training for fighting purposes. I immediately went to my nearest boxing club - but then I thought about it. I'm only 5'6" and the peeps I'm likely to be in confrontations with are all taller and bigger than I am. There are NO BJJ clubs where I'm at - but I may be able to find some Judo schools (Thats a big MAY, too.). So would you guys advise boxing or judo? I know that a mix of standup and ground techniques are important- but I can only afford one or the other. So its basicaly which would be able to suit me fighting bigger people- I won't have their reach or leverage.... but then again they might be harder to take down and make me pay for trying to get close. Any insight would be appreciated.

    I'd say both.

Honestly, if you can only afford one or the other I'd go with judo but only if it is a competitive school that focuses a lot on newaza groundwork.

I'd say go with boxing. You're interested in taking a MA for "fighting purposes" and boxing, in general, is more aggressive and requires more more physical endurance than judo.

I have taken some introductory judo classes. We also practice basic judo throws at my BJJ school. I personally would never DREAM of trying to execute some those complicated weird ass judo throws as many include exposing your back to the opponent.

i say boxing.. if you seen what i seen.. boxing is the way to go..

if you go to jail boxing with help ..

if you in a situation where you are out numbered and they give you a change to fight one on one with they're boy.. boxing.. if you go to the ground his friends will seperate you.. and back on your feet again buddy...

diffrent sceneros that boxing will be your savior of judo.. trust me.. boxing is a basic..

throwing a punch is a basic tool,

throwing grappling is a 2nd ... but learn both..
