I'd have to agree with crazy joe, (i seem to be making a habit of that ) !!!!!!
For me the boxing element is more important and given more emphasis than in straigh muay thai.
My instructor taught both, so you could choose your preference.

I believe not one style would be best for a certain person who choses it or dont know therefore having to ask for opinion is a sure way of never finding out what is best style for that particular person. There are so many styles out there...best style is perhaps no style, instead extracting best techniques from each and every diff. styles that are offered in Martial arts or Self-Defense techniques. Anyhow to answer your question...Karate (meaning empty hands/ bare hand or fist) or kickboxing (wearing of a glove and going for rounds after rounds / sports) I cannot answer for you...you must decide what your goal is first.

If you throw punch after punch its.....
Karate, kung fu, taekwondo, hapkido, jujitsu, savate, kali, jeet kune do, wing chun, shaolin, hung gar, pankration, etc.
I'm not a smart ass its the truth. All arts have punches. The rules of boxing is what makes it boxing. You break the rules and your not doing boxing.
Everyone in MMA uses the same style. Styles are just the rules you use when sparring. Everything is damn same.

BOXING: is an athletic contest between two persons, each of whom uses the fists to try to knock the other unconscious or to inflict enough punishment.

Igor Vovchanchyn beating everyone with just boxing, Joe??
Vovchanchyn got submitted by "Zen Machine" Mario Sperry in Pride 17... now you explain me that!!!
By the way, Igor also does Combat Sambo, so he's not only a kickboxer.
Thanx for the advice on boxing, Joe. I will keep it in mind.
But I have another question to all... Kyokushin's kicking approaches (but never matches) Muay Thai in some way. Kicks to the legs are very common, and also some effective kicking is present in the style. And I mean true knockout kicking. This is what has me thinking. There's no kicking to the legs in Kickboxing. Of course the boxing technique present in KB is important to consider, but what about kicks?? I want to make a real good decision.
And no... I can't practice both of them, just one.
Thanx to all for the posts... Later

Conach,
It comes down to what you want out of it.
Kickboxing has better punches.
Kyokushin has leg kicks and throws and I believe knees but i'm not sure about that.
I think they are even. No head punches is not good, but no throws and no leg kicks is also bad.
I would base it on if you want to learn how to throw people or not.
Check to see if Kyokushin allows knees to the head in the clinch. I think they might. If thats the case then all its missing is head punches. Sure thats important but not too hard to punch the face instead of the body in a street fight.
If you took kyokushin, boxed with some buddys on the side and learned some basic grappling you would be set.
