Hey ppl I'm thinking about quitting TKD and going into some other self-defense thing...which do you think is better--Krav Maga or Muay Thai kickboxing? I'm leaning a bit towards Krav Maga, but I could change my mind.

I would recomend krav maga.
Have you visited both schools, talked to both instructors? Watched classes? Told the instructor your doubts and why exactly your switchin up?
Do that, ask questions.
Does the Krav maga school sparr (full contact) regularly? Some dont, some are just as McDojo as your TKD school.Last edited by terry; 11-01-2002, 11:49 AM.

If you want counters to handguns, clubs, knives, locks, and to learn throws and locks, and quick strikes like to the eyes, that's all Krav Maga.
I doubt the Israeli Defense Force would bother with a less-than-practical system. Even their special forces use it.
However, pain tolerance, power, and learning how to take a hit all are better learned in Muay Thai. It will make you a better fighter, overall. But fighting and self-defense aren't the same thing . . .
BTW, Szczepankiewicz is right on this one.

Well, the laws of chance sad it had to happen someday. But its never happened before, and probably never again, unles you live to be 150.....
As for which? It depends on your goals. Thai is a mighty fine art and sport. Wear a gumshield....
And Krav Maga is a recognised total self defence system.
I'd go for Krav Maga. It seems to have more scope to keep your interest going.

Didnt I use a smileyto show my sarcasm?
Oh well.
Note:
To open your own Krav Maga dealership, you need a 2 day seminar in california and like 500 $$ for the certificate and admin fees.
Here in Reno, Nv, we have a McDojo Krav Maga on one side of town, and a 'real' krav maga on the other side of town. Its a riot.

I have been training muay Thai since the day i started walking i fight a little different though i have trained many other styls but find muay thai and krav maga to be the best i take aspects from krav maga and apply it to my muay thai and vice versa and well have become to be nown as one verry aggressive and dangerous fighter the best woudl be to train some muay thau to get your stamina and aggressive ness and to be able to take a strike and strike back in the basic forms before then switching to krav maga because if you find a proper krav maga school they will train hard and will also spar full contact with certani rules but in real krav maga ther are no rules and anythgin goes just with a bit of technique and some absence of fear you cuodl become a good fighter in either system
