Hey everyone i was just wondering what would be the best path for weapon training. i would think training in the knife and the gun would the most reasonable. or should i train with the traditional weapon arts.

My uninformed opinion would be to train with a stick. Sticks are plentiful in most environments.

i would agree to some degree but when your in the city lol your not going to find a stick lying around. but you could always conceal a knife in your jacket.

Are you prepared to stab and/or cut someone with your knife?

            KNIFE STICK GUN.

most common weapons. they are everywhere. anything can be a stick, from a broomstick you break off to the leg of a barstool to a lead pipe

            stick = blunt object

knife = edged object - broken beer bottle, broken glass, anything sharp

gun, stick, and knife are the only ones worth your time as far as self defense and real fighting goes--unless you can get a permit to carry a 7 foot staff or a katana. you can carry a knife (better work on speed drawing it or it's useless), you can carry a gun, other people have guns so you need to know how to deal with/use them, and sticks are everywhere.

in the city lol your not going to find a stick lying around
i disagree with this. a stick could be a piece of rebar that's lying at the construction site (all over big cities), a bar from a window, a broom handle, stool leg, etc. sticks are EVERYWHERE.

that's a very good point. don't carry a weapon unless you are fully willing to use it. don't carry unless you're trained to use a weapon either.

this is like eyegouging and throat strikes/crushes. everyone says they'd do this when they're sitting in the dojo talking tough, but do they really have the mentality to destroy someone's eyeball while the person is twitching in their arms? i doubt it. have the tools, but make sure your arsenal is complete.

i believe if you are in a life or death situation you will have to do what you have to to survive and therefore most likely have the mentality to kill a person

That is possible Platinum, however, unless you actually find yourself in that situation, or have done things like before, you're not really going to be sure.

The way I train is progressive so that I will use the least amount of force necessary. That saying 'I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6' is all well and good, but I am pretty sure that the originators of this lovely statement weren't on trial for murder facing life in the state rape camps or the death penalty.

The Bo is my favorite, but not the most reasonable for self-defense. If you want to train with one for fun, however, I'd go with a Katana. Those things are the coolest.

Most logical for defense, like everyone else has said, would be just an average length blunt object that is like a stick.

                          Sticks, knives, and guns.

Sticks are everywhere, as has been said by everyone: a book, a stapler, a hole puncher, a phone, pool cue, chair leg, cd case...

Knives are everywhere: pens, magazines (www.fightingarts.com), keys, piece of glass or mirror.

Guns are not everywhere, but they are, and they usually win vs unarmed people, stick wielding people, and knife bearing people 9 times out of 10.

Also since these weapons are most commonly available, easy to aquire, and all commonly employed - you should learn how to use them so you are more capable of dealing with someone else who has one.

You should also incorporate knifes into your training, not just sticks and guns. IMO its very silly not to.

he's right. a lot of people think that since a stick has similarities to all weapons that training with it will make them functional with a knife. they are wrong. you can't learn edge control from a stick. also, you might as well train with a rubber knife since it will be hard to get your hands on a gun at age 16. just a thought.

i might not be able to get my hands on a gun but i can get my hands on a plastic gun with a clicking trigger and there prolly wouldn't be any training difference.

i would have to agree with you about training all three but i can't just start training all of them one day. i need to start with one then i could progress. if was going to train all three might as well train with some other weapons.
