Hrm. I dunno about this guy particularly, but I have met and watched some aikido "masters" in person , and doubt that anyone's boys would give them much sweat. The problem has to do with the learning curve in aikido, which I'll agree, is the greatest measure of any art, style, or school.

Look at part of the web page url. It says "seminar." That means what was going on was part of a demonstration. If what was supposed to happen was a beat-down party that is exactly what would have happened.
Perhaps what is being missed here is that a multi-attacker exercise like this is to show that Aikido techniques can be applied with an attacker coming at you from virtually any angle?

when he throws someone down..
the students "automaticly" fall down to.. not saying it's because the movement of what the teacher is doing is making them do it because they will get their limb broken. no.. not at all. it's their habit to fall.. street people are not gonna fall. i'm sure some of it works.. the lock all together works. getting into that lock in those methods.. might not work.. all the time. maybe some drunk dickhead will .. but ..
hmm
never mind.. i think it's weak..
the art is nice.. but for combat i can't put my faith in it..

The problem in aikido is that you need a lot of time to learn even the basics. It is a martial art that really works e.g. on the streets you just have to train it for years to understand even the basics. but in the end it does work. Trust me I have seen a demostration where 3 guys tryed to attack the master of our dojo. all 3 ended up on the ground.

Crazyjoe: I know what boys are, lol. We are both typing english?
Anyways, you are making blanket comments about a style's techniques, when what you should really be bashing is how they train. Aikido doesnt have any special techniques or methods that are unique only to them.
You are right, but it has nothing to do with the techniques, or even the style itself, its how each individual trains, how each school trains, how each teacher teaches.
If Thaiboxers trained like TKD olympic people, they would be just as ****ed up when it comes to the street. Labels are Labels.

As for the automatic falling down thing, in aikido (proper aikido, done in a fast and agressive manner) the htrows tend to splat people into the pavement/mat head first if they dont roll out, alot of time is spent learning ukemi (breakfalling) to allow the student s to learn these hard throws without injury. If done properly the student would not be able to roll out, they would just be hurt.
In some schools of aikido this has been taken a bit too far and the student seem to just fall down, that is because they do! this is not a true representation of Aikido IMPO.
The learning curve thing is very much to do with what your motivation for training is, if we are talking fighting then it MAY take you longer that MT or something but this cannot be detirmined unless you have studied both.
Cheers
Chris
