  • Vale Tudo - Martial art or advanced street fighting

I practise vale tudo through my jiujitsu training and i must say it is an effective art becuase it encorporates the striking side of muay thai and kickboxing and the ground work of brazilian jiu-jitsu. However when watching UFC it just seems to look like a sober street fight.

In my opinion when done well it is a effective martial art but it can also look like a scrappy street fight.

    Any thoughts guys!!

When in the hell was the last time you saw Vale Tudo in the ufc??? last was pedro rizzo and the first was marco ruas.....there style was ruas vale tudo but vale tudo is brazilian for "anything goes" so its more of just a name not a style.....if you think the ufc looks like a sober streetfight then you must ove been drunk while watching blurrs of light move around on the screen...u alchy.

I wouldnt consider it a martial art. MMA isn't a martial art itself, but it includes planty of them. Isn't Vale Tudo just MMA for brazilians, incorporating things in a sportive manner? It encorporates martial arts in its sport but is not really a martial art to me. Not to say I dont love MMA/Vale Tudo, I'm mostly a sportive guy myself.

i would think of vale tudo as a sport and a training method. Testing arts in a vale tudo context changes what is actually functional in an art.
