Its not fair to say your wrong when......

..... you have no idea about this style. Good guesses from a lot of people though. Remember, I am a white belt in this art, with about 12 months consistant training and about 18 months of martial training ( strike style behind that ) I can not really answer what is guard because I am a white belt but I will tell you what my interpretation of it was in a real situation. When I was taken to the floor I had my legs wrapped around his torso in what I have been told is a closed guard. I pulled him using my hips and gravity holding his arms closer to the floor, trying all the time to keep my body and his as close as possible together. I had my arm wrapped around his right arm keeping it as close to my body as I could and also had hold of his left sleeve keeping that as close to my body as I could, in the mean time he was trying to punch as effectively as he could. Because of his strength I had to constantly reajust my body position and his body position in order to maintain this position. When he brought his body position up I had to follow him up and down in order to conserve sregth, when he tried brute stength to beat me I had to ( unaturally ) follow his flow and then maintain my advantage of the previose position, ( if that makes sense ) I could tell it was ennoying him that he could not punch me, using all his stength he raised up, at which point I went to open guard, knee across his chest, and pulled him back into closed guard, at which point the bouncers intervened. Sorry about my spelling..

Dude I'm not trying to clown you but after a year in a "Real BJJ School" you WILL KNOW the guard pretty good. Thats a fact! Maybe your bjj instructor is holding back or something. You ought to check other schools. The guard is one of the first and in some schools the first position you learn. Sorry bro

I know the guard as a white belt does.

Blue belts know it better than me, maybe you do too, I used what I know. Hopefully I will be better next year. I am quite happy with the credentials of my instuctors thanks.

I understand completely. But if you want to learn some bjj technique to enhance your training in your country go to:

He has a training association that is dedicated to training assistance. I was his student for a few years at his school in San Jose, Ca. and I know that he is willing to help anybody. Its worth checking out!

Attack him first? I didnt because I was intimidated by his size and would have to of been very mean to stop any retaliation, ( dont want to go to jail ) I should not have verbally backed down? this may have encouraged him to attack seeing weakness in me. How do you back down without showing weakness? Leave the building? Why should I, Its my night as well. Does not backing down like I did increase or decrease the chances of being attacked? Anyway I was sort of happy with the outcome but feel kind of annoyed at myself for being scared and backing down, when he still attacked anyway.
From the looks of it, a post was either modified or deleted prior to this one. But here's my take on it. You did just fine. There was no reason to attack him first, that looks bad legally should the police get involved regardless of how much bigger he is than you. There's nothing wrong with verbally backing down, it decreases the chances that you will be attacked. In your case it didn't work, not much you can do about it. Let the other guy think you're weak, then he'll be that much more surprised when you hand him his ass if it comes down to that. There's no reason to leave the building either.

Nothing wrong with being scared. It's an unpredictable situation that you actually handled quite well.
