Just because people are Christian's doesn't make them any better than non Christain's, if fact they know and accept that they are much worst. Being a Christian isn't any easier than not being one, in fact it's harder, as you open yourself up for perscution, mocking and much more. We Christian's accept we are sinners in God's sight. To repent of your sin and confess you need God to save you, takes more than just courage, it takes faith.

There are rapist's in all part's of society and where ever you angle is THIS IS WRONG. Weather church goers or not. Rape is wrong. These people need to be brought to justice. I from the UK, a few weeks ago a scum bag guy here raped a 12 week old baby and only got six years, again these people need to be brought to justice and 6 years is not justice.

I'm a born again Evangelical Christian, I don't go in for forcing that on people. I'll wittness to people if they are interseted in my beliefs but if you force people to listern to something against their wills then that to is wrong.

I would love to have the faith of an atheist, sitting there in your ivory tower believeing in nothing. WOW what strong faith they must have.

The usages of those things, especially in primative cultures, was to get closer to the collective unconscious. The Shamans would use them to throw off any traits, ideals, ideas, etc of everyday learned behavior, to get closer to the unconscious, to the instincts. Though the journey into the unconscious, they could send back messeges to the people "on the outside" and with those messeges they brought back there would be some truth in them or some "healing" to the peoples of the tribe. Often the Shamans would come to a point on their "trip" or halluciogenic coma where there was a lake. If they got as far as the lake, they made it to the point where "truths" could be revealed or uttered.
This is just a thumb nail, I could write for hours on the subject.
Listen to the Doors song "the end" and the poem in American Prayer or whatever its called by Jim Morrison. In "the end" he says "ride the snake, to the lake, the ancient lake, the snake is long, 7 miles, he's old, and his skin is cold". Morrison considered himself a shaman, able to send back messeges to "heal" us or to reveal something about ourselves we didnt know. He wrote in the AMerican Prayer "choose Now, they croon, beneath the moon, beside the ancient lake" This ancient lake pops up in literature and is a very important symbol for many artists.

I find it interesting that dispite the fact all religions acknowledge a God, once you get into the small details people start killing each other over it. Perhaps the devil invented "organized religion" to conquer and divide man. Without organized religion, man would be much happier, safer, and closer to the Spirit they believe in.

Study fails to show healing power of prayer

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A study of more than 1,800 patients who underwent heart bypass surgery has failed to show that prayers specially organized for their recovery had any impact, researchers said Thursday.


In fact, the study found some of the patients who knew they were being prayed for did worse than others who were only told they might be prayed for -- though those who did the study said they could not explain why.

The patients in the study at six U.S. hospitals included 604 who were actually prayed for after being told they might or might not be; another 597 patients who were not prayed for after being told they might or might not be; and a group of 601 who were prayed for and told they would be the subject of such prayer.

The praying was done by members of three Christian groups in monasteries and elsewhere -- two Catholic and one Protestant -- who were given written prayers and the first name and initial of the last name of the prayer subjects. The prayers started on the eve of or day of surgery and lasted for two weeks.

Among the first group -- who were prayed for but only told they might be -- 52 percent had post-surgical complications compared to 51 percent in the second group, the ones who were not prayed for though told they might be. In the third group, who knew they were being prayed for, 59 percent had complications.

After 30 days, however, the death rates and incidence of major complications was about the same across all three groups, said the study published in the American Heart Journal.

COMPLICATIONS AFTER SURGERY

"Intercessory prayer itself had no effect on whether complications occurred (and) patients who were certain that intercessors would pray for them had a higher rate of complications than patients who were uncertain but did receive intercessory prayer," the study said.

There is "no clear explanation" for the latter finding, it added.

The study -- called the largest of its kind -- was designed only to try to measure the impact of intercessory prayer on heart surgery patients, an intervention that some earlier reports had showed seemed to be beneficial.

"Our study was never intended to address the existence of God or the presence or absence of intelligent design in the universe" or to compare the efficacy of one prayer form over another, said the Rev. Dean Marek, director of chaplain services at the Mayo Clinic, one of the authors.

The patients in the study had similar religious profiles with most believing in spiritual healing and almost all also thinking that friends or relatives would be praying for them as well, he said.

"One caveat is that with so many individuals receiving prayer from friends and family, as well as personal prayer, it may be impossible to disentangle the effects of study prayer from background prayer," Manoj Jain of Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, another author of the report.

The authors said one possible limitation to their study was that those doing the special praying had no connection or acquaintance with the subjects of their prayer, which would not usually be the norm.

"Private or family prayer is widely believed to influence recovery from illness, and the results of this study do not challenge this belief," the report concluded.

My favorite is when BOTH teams at EVERY freakin sporting event PRAY for victory before each GAME....hmmmm can you say BS?? god always has to pick a favorite team...does he put ball game prayers on hold while he deals with life and death prayers? OR is that why someones important prayer wasnt answered? perhaps god was busy hooking up little jimmy's little league game when you needed him?.....

O yeah, NOW i remember... at the Private christian Acadamy i attended when we prayed for "Victory in the name of the lord" and "played for god" and "represented chrisianity" when we played the teams from schools for "troubled" kids that MEANT everyone would play fair and no one would get hurt....
