Bushido is "Japanese chivalry" in a way.
Basically it's the stereotypical "good values" of the what the martial arts are about.
Some take it too extremely and only focus on being a good person (but can't fight at all)
Others are wonderful fighters but have no moral responsibility for it.
So I prefer the adage "the most dangerous fighter in the world should be the most moral man"

It's not for everyone I guess, but I have always been partial to it as it relates to BJJ, judo, wrestling, etc.

I guess what I'm saying is if you win a fight without hurting someone badly you encompass what a "master" is in the eyes of people.

      Hope that helps

      Take care,

      Ryu

I’ll go with cold and controlled. Rage and fear are different sides of the same coin. Finishing is about technique. Rage is not a necessary component. As noted above, massive adrenaline dump can work for you for a few minutes and then leave you a wet noodle. It also produces tunnel vision. A fighter in a rage generally only sees the object of his rage. He is completely unaware of the guy sneaking up behind him with a piece of pipe.

Anger is largely about fear and insecurity. It’s a sign of weakness. Guys who are known for going berserk don’t scare me that much. The guy to watch out for is the cold, quiet, calculating bastard who enjoys his work.

          Cool, Calm and Collected.

I myself, like to be calm and relaxed before I fight. If I get angry I let feelings get in the way of my controlled skill.

Before I walk into the ring my cornerman is telling me to relax and breathe deep, to stay focused on what I have to do.

Fear is not a question, I do not fear, but get exited when I fight. I thrive on the exitment and use it to it's full potential.

If I was to feel fear, then I would not be relaxed. If I was not relaxed, then I would not be calm. If I were not calm, then it would make me angry.

Hmmmm, I have been enlightened yet again! So I guess my conclusions would be, be calm cold and relaxed with explosive bursts to finish off the fight.

              Explosive

Explosive burst's are great, but do not confuse it with anger.

Be explosive as in: Strong, Fast, Accurate & cause them pain.

Go kick some ass my friend.

Mr. Freeman, in being "explosive." How long do you find you can keep it up without tiring?

                  YeLLa,
if you are talking about ring fighting then there is a difference from a streetfight. But the main points are pretty clear. "Controlled rage" is the ability to be aggressive without loosing your head, but also to know when to drop back a bit and gather yourself. You can't do that when you are completely under the influence of your emotions. Remember when Rickson was given that black eye by Funaki, and went for him? And Funaki spoke of "the demon Rickson" or something like that? That's "controlled rage" Your mind is cool and collected, but your body is aggressive, and "rageful". That's the only way I can explain it. You have to pace yourself too. The main thing is not to waste energy when you don't need to. If you are mounted and he can't get out. Relax. Don't be tense or raging.
Anyway everyone has given you great advice here. Including Mr. Freeman who is a pro fighter, so definately listen to him
Explosive bursts mean that your body gets into a good position where you can do damage, and it does just that. Or if you escape a position you do it with a sudden burst of energy, and put everything you have into it. IF it fails do not continue the burst. Try something else, etc.

                  Take care,
                  Ryu

Yeah, I should of been more clear in my original post. I sort of meant a one on one confrontation. I think that translates really well with a ring sport (more so than multiple attackers at least!) Thanks for the clarification Ryu! You've given me more valuable info. for me again!

Thanks to everyone that had taken the time to educate me and for responding!

The best way I've heard it explained was in relation to being a predator. It's almost the same as Manco's "controlled killer", except killer might make you think of anger/hate, etc.

Think of a dog attacking a rattlesnake. It's cautious because it knows the snake can kill it, but it also has a job to do. There is no hate or anger, just the job at hand, which is kill the snake without being bitten.

Hey guys check out http://www.geocities.com/stuigarta/turnanimal.avi , its a video of someone "unleashing the beast". I think I agree with calm and cool from outside with a certain agression, but not quite rage, but at the close range before grappling, and maybe even in grappling range it might work(?), flipping that switch and turning animalistic. What did you guys think about the vid?
