I agree that aikido can be effective. My judo dojo is primarily aikido and the very high belts can do some amazing things. I do think that it takes a long time to be anywhere near effective in aikido. It's a very subtle art.

I will try to put them in web format so you can all see that your limited knowledge of crap dojo's is not really what these arts are about!

I remember rolling with a couple aikido guys, they weren't able to redirect anything. Can't say for sure if they are better off against a brawler than a decent grappler would be though. But I have a huge problem with little kids that have black belts. And I don't like weopons training, which Aikido has plenty of.

Here is an excellent post from another forum that i thought was relevant.

There seems to be a lot of thrashing about here of late re: all the things aikido is NOT. There's no kicks, there's no grappling, there's no wrastlin', there's no ground fightin', Hmmmmmmmmm.

You may not see it and your instructor may not teach it, but it's all there. Or has been there. Or can be there. . .

Open your eyes into the light and it's white light. All the colors are there. You don't see them until you bang that light through a prism and then---------wow. Don't judge aikido by the small pocket you see, no matter how "big" that may be. Actually, don't judge aikido at all.

Take all those amazing colors from that refracted light and bang em through another prism and whaddaya got? Pure white light again. All your thousands of hours of technique will form principles, and with them you can refract and reconstitute the light of aikido along your Journey. It takes time to be able to do that. A LOT OF TIME. Most of the time when you wonder what aikido is "not" you're in a hurry. One of my sensei's oldest maxims is "Haste and all associated with it are fatal."

              (superb quote below!!!)

"Aikido works. Your aikido doesn't work. Don't confuse the difference."
