i think your misunderstanding what "continual motion" means.
i would be surprised if the execution of any of the techniques are very similar with each other. i dont know that much about either MA, but i think i know enough to say that HKD and Aikido aren't all that similar...in technique that is.....hmm, im trying to remember a HKD clip i saw a while back...Aikido seems much "calmer" and has very circular movements. lol not saying that HKD isn't any of those things...but i im almost 100% sure Aikido is not that similar to HKD.
"Be alert. Be alive in the moment. Don’t imagine anyone who comes and asks you to ‘push’ or ‘spar’ will keep to a format, or even stay barehanded" my ba gua teacher !!
HKD is more like DAito Ryu JuJutsu than Aikido, This is the art that Aikido mainly developed from and some HKD styles have tried to make a connection to Daito Ryu. There is still some debate but most theories are unsubstantiated.
This could be why it is more combative. Although Daito Ryu Aiki JuJutsu does have all the techniques of aikido involved in its sylabus, most of the early techniques are far more brutal, with pinning and locking involved to a large extent along with punches and kicks, mainly designed to off balance and strike vital points.
Yes I agree, TKD is pretty much good for kicks and nothing else, but it can get your legs conditioned if you're in a proper class, but I'd set any street fighter against a TKD blackbelt and bet anything on the streetfighter!
HKD & Aikido have very little in common. HKD can be very agresive and is a small circle system. Even in Tomiki Aikido where they use small circles. HKD by nature is a combative system. Aikido goes by a Budist phylosophie. They do as little damage as possible while attaining their goal. As well, in Aikido the attacker is encouraged to over extent their strikes. The problem is now adays not many people do that. In Hapkido we deal with all veriety of strikes, not just encouraging them to over extend.
k, im' just ...gonna defend tkd a little bit...as it gets put down so often...lets show some love...
now...tkd...and karate..and..ugh...i hate to say it cuz...well i have my reasons..."KICK BOXING"...are all very alike in... a lot of sparring...ness...
I like to think that generally people think of TKD as WTF-TkD...the silly ...WOOPS DID I SAY THAT....olympic stuff...hey the tkd i've experienced ...was not the WTF.."no punch to face okay man?" way...it was very much like the karate stuff...or kick boxing stuff..which means incorporation of arms 'n ish...i mean...you still learn chops 'n ish...and if you have good instructor you'll get plenty of fun times practicing all your tools
but i mean...i'd still bed against the tkd too..kaka...cuz for the most part, these doods will do "movie material" kicks which will miss....or not do enough, then fall down, then they lose...but ...ya ....lets not put down tkd too often....maybe 3times a week man....they take a lot of hurtin' by people like us....oh and general public ;D
oKAY..so back to the topic.....uh....ya...HKD != AIKIDO
that's just crazy man...what was it...someone just said HKD = AIKIDO + TKD
...i guess..jeez....aikido is like....super expansion art (super theory apply to your base knowledge)...ya, I mean....i could put some aikido+some karate....+ some....uh...whatever spice and name give it a wacky name like....geri-aikijutsu...
The sage experiences without abstraction,
And accomplishes without action;
He accepts the ebb and flow of things,
Nurtures them, but does not own them,
And lives, but does not dwell.
They all have one thing in common. They don't teach you how to fight.
Oh really?... And I suppose muay thai and BJJ are right? A streetfighter over a TKD man... Gimme a break... Most street fighters can't even fight... Granted, there are some that will win, but for every street fighter, there's a disciplined martial artist that can kick his azz.
Most people are given a false impression of the martial arts because today it's all about money. Classes are weak as well as instructors... however, the root of the martial arts hasn't changed... It's primary objective is to defend, fight etc... The true martial aritist knows this and trains for the right reasons.
Today the martial arts is getting too institutionalized for the streets... You may not be aware of it, but being taught to avoid kicking to the groin will ingrain itself in your mind, limiting your arsenal. Today it's TKD, tomorrow it will be Muay Thai or BJJ...
