I watched some Vunak's tapes (except, unfortunately, "Street safe" and "R.A.T." which are told to be the best ones).
What I saw was not self-defense, but sparring against other fighters, jumping around a mat. The stuff (straight blast, heads/knees/elbows, kali destructions, trapping, dumog grappling) was very interesting. Vunak is fast and aggressive. But these techniques make sense to me only if you are able to perform them from a passive stance in a streetfight, along with pre-fight management.
Also, Kali "gunting" would fail against opponents who wear winter clothes.
But I'd like to watch R.A.T. demonstrations anyway.

Bri, I have just watched several of his video's and I challenge you to a 2 out of 3 death match.

Based on his videos I've seen, about 6 or 7. I think he has some sound concepts for self defense and training, though other material is too martsy-artsy.

Example: When you recongnize your attacker turning to do a spinning kick, intercept with a kick to the lower back. The technique would probably just be too hard in the middle of a fight for someone without years of fighting experience, but the concept is good as attacking your opponent when they make themself vulnerable.

He does like trapping, though he stated that in class they may work 10% punching and 90% trapping, but in a street fight you'll do 10% trapping and 90% punching. I guessing he works off the idea that since trapping is more complex and needed in a fight then that area needs to be worked more. I didn't care for some of the trapping and gunting. It seems there was some effort to do gunting or destruction when a strike to the face or throat would have been more economical.

Defang the Snake, liked that. There was some stick twirling around your head 3ft away from the opponent, I didn't care for that and to be fair I don't understand it.

I think I'd be set if I had the Street Safe and the Headbutt Knee & Elbows. Ithink he has a lot to offer and should be able to give something useful to everyone.

Thanks for the info. Confirms a lot of what I thought.
