hey ryan do you remember that post i put up a long time that was named lilke the best move or whatever and i sayed it was a shoot in tackle. well i was lookin for movies on kazaa and i found royce gracie from the ufc. and his main move was just that a shoot in tackle and it worked everytime even against the best fighters so i stand with the idea that oneof the best moves in martial arts is just a shoot in tackle. and all of you guys said you would beable to evade the shoot in lol

I saw some videos (most notably those of *Gracie vs. Sakuraba) where people did fairly well avoiding the takedowns. (i think this is what you were talking about).
In fact, if I remember correctly, there was one time when Royce tried shooting in for an ankle pick or something and got shalacked in the head cuz Saku was able to jump back and let fly. (please correct me here if I'm wrong).
I think Sakuraba has very good spatial perception, which helped him to gauge his range and be able to keep away from the takedowns.
Admittedly, my meager knowledge/experience suggests that it is probably a LOT harder to KEEP someone from closing the gap than it is for them to close the gap, but I've seen it work for those of us who have the timing and precision to do it.
Keep in mind tho, Silva kicked Saku's ass in a later(?) Pride.

Royce's shoots worked in the early UFC's because most MA's didn't teach any counters.
Sakuraba was able to beat Royce because he had him well scouted and refused to play Royce's game by not falling into his guard.
