  • Help with Finnishing techniques!

Okay all you grapplers out there! I’m looking for a good technique to use. I’m not a grappler so I’m not sure of the terms you guys use.

Let me start by giving you the back ground. I was visiting family in another state for spring break. I have a nephew that is into ma (black belt in tkd). He is a fairly cocky and very large guy out weighs me by 55lbs. Anyway he bothered me and bothered me to spar he thinks he can beat me. Well after a lot of persistence I agreed to spar. He ended up on his ass a lot from me doing leg kicks(kicking his support leg while he was kicking). He had a huge arsenal of kicks very fancy ones too none of which got me. I’ve trained in muay thai and love to clench and throw knees. The first time I clinched him I threw l-knee landed on his sternum, outside r-knee landed on his ribs. Anyway he said “I bet you can’t do that again”. So within 15 seconds I had him again(clinch) and landed two knees . This time he dropped to the ground and grabbed my leg( he’s lucky I wasn’t throwing another knee down the middle, could of hurt him bad). Well I wrestled in high school I also wrestled in aau (freestyle). So I’m pretty good at this. I sprawled out used his head as lever and spun around on his back. In true wrestling fashion I tied up his leg with my leg so he could not sit out or stand up.

Here is where my question is. I really wanted to sink a choke or an arm bar. I have him flat on his stomach I’m on his back and have control. Yes I was hitting and using elbows. No matter how hard I tired to get the choke or a arm behind his back he was to strong or tucked his chin to his chest. What techniques are good from this position and how are they applied? Thanks.

Since you're on top of his back, maybe you can do the following:

    1) Use both your hands to grab his forehead and pull it back to expose his throat.

    2) Put both legs around him (if he's too big, just sit on top of him or something) and apply a choke.

    3) If you wanna put his hand behind his back (like what the police do when they arrest someone), maybe you can wait till he grabs your arm when you're trying to do the choke, then grab his arm. Since he's big, you may want to use finger locks.

Now, I'm not that experienced, but these are just my thoughts. I'm open to any suggestions (corrections) so I can improve.

make a knifehand and reach down apply pressure at a 45 degree angle to the spot where the nose connects to the lip. It's a good pressure point that may allow you to lift his head enough to apply a choke with out him being able to tuck his chin.

there are lots of things you can do just depends on what techniques are in your arsenal.

this is just what my idea of a rear choke was? (dunno if you know or not but anywaysss....... im bored lol)

basically, lift his head up, put one of your arms through from the side, and around the front of his neck pulling it in as tight as possible.

then just put your other arm in front of you, to the side of his neck, and wrap your hand around to the back of his neck and push down, eg so your using your free "arm" to lock the choke in place and hten apply presusre makin it more affective?

And that's your basic choke isnt it? works every time lol jokes.

Well I absouloutley love my chokes and strangles as im a grappler at heart my style is Judo and jujitsu.

Firstly if he is lying on his front, get on his back and try to get him sitting on his knees. Dig your knuckles into the side of his neck with one hand and slide your hand through the gap you made and put it round his neck. Now you have a strong position as he is on his knees, tuck your legs in between his legs, as now you should look like your lying on his back. Then with the hold still applied roll him onto his side and squeeze your hand into the side of his neck and thats a submission. (That might have been a bit hard to follow but thats the jist of it).

Is he wearing some sort of GI, i guess he would be if hes TKD. If he is and hes lying on his back with his front facing you. You have to get in close and take the mount over him. Now slip you right hand up to his right hand side of his neck, and then the left and croosess the right and goes to his left side of his neck. Now get those hands as deep back to the back of his neck as possible and then roll your wrists into his neck. Yoiur fingers should have hold of his gi rond his neck and your hands should have crossed each other. Make sure you get inclose and watch a straight arm as an armbar could be thown at you.
This strangle in judo is called nami ju ju jime or normal cross strangle. The other variations of this are gyaku ju ju jime and kata ju ju jime.

If you want any more give me a bell and I tell ya some more, I have alot in my arsenal.

Well, when I've got the back mount on a big guy and he doesn't give up his neck one of my favorite things to do is to go for a spine crank. Since he's on his back, flat on his stomach. All you have to do is place your knees on the small of his back, right above the waist. Then grab his chin with both hands ( fingers interlocked) and pull upwards. He'll tap.... On a side note, you said you elbowed him while on the ground and he's your nephew? I thought I had a dysfunctional family !

Nah, it wasn't hard. just a friendly match-no one got hurt. Maybe if I threw them (elbow/punches) harder maybe he'd cover up more and I would of had more oppenings.

You say to put my knees on the small of his back. Do I need to get the chin first? How do I keep him from rolling?
