    Good stuff!

Here's footage of me n' my homies practicing zui quan. Greggi is the first guy. Dick Hardman is the guy with the chucks. Excessive Force makes a cameo as well with his precision butterfly kick. Britt hopes that you like pain and demonstrates a few spin kicks. I'm the short, fat bald guy with the white tank top.

I came here in search of opportunities to learn about Zui Ba Xian Quan (or Zui Quan, for that matter!) See, I've played Dead or Alive 3 and learned about the Drunken Fist, and since then, I've been very interested in learning about it! How effective is it? How would an experienced Drunken Master stand up to somebody skilled in karate, for example? And lastly and most importantly, how can one hope to find a trainer? Is it possible? See, I live in a backwater country town, where only Karate, Judo and free-form is practiced... and Zui Quan interests me like crazy!

Thank you SO much in advance!

Zui Quan is a very interesting style. I have trainned in more structured styles, such as Shotokan Karate, Go Kan Ryu Karate club, Muay Thai (competition style) as well as stardard boxing and kick boxing, and a few lessons in Jujitsu, and a few gradings in a form of Tae Kwon Do. And what is important to remember about Martial arts, is that it is an "art". You can paint the same fruit bowl as the rest of your class, or you can create you own artwork, but in saying that, there are still basic and essential skills, otherwise your seperate artwork can end up being a stick figure. What Im trying to say is, with knowledge of the basics, learning forms and styles, you can use the essenital aspects to create your own.
In my experience, the imitation of a drunkard, being drunk, keeps to the body more relaxed and flexible. Also gives more power with the correct shifting of weight, and the tension of all muscles at the point of impact.
A formal style of Zui Quan could be found and taught in what is commonly known as "Wushu" which translates to "Martial Art" and generally refers to what in Popular culture is known as Kung Fu, which means "to be masterful or skillful". There are a number of Wushu clubs which do a number of Chinese styles, like Xing Ye Quan with a number of animal forms. Try searching in your area for Wushu.
And as a final note, most martial artist will advise, that more hard, rigged and stressed stances are essential for the beginner. More relaxed and natural stances have to be earned. When you can master the teachings and techniques in a harder stance, you can apply them more effectively relaxed and natural. Pretty much the old movie line "Learn the form, perfect the form, forget the form, seek the formless."

Additional Note: Zui Quan requires a high level of coordination and balance. It is not practiced drunk. It is only an imitation of a drunk. Replicating the relaxed state and confusing movements.
