Cardriving is a part of it, weapons depends on the country, in my country no weapons
Most important is learning to shield your client and this will take most time of the course
You must be prepared to take a hit though (punch or bullet)
If not you can't protect the client and you shouldn't be out there because it will give the client a false sence of security
In a lot of countries you can find good courses for this some even give a job waranty, if you pass they'll find a job for you

The only thing I've done like being a body guard was deflect this girls punch from hitting another girl at the bar. Girl A tried cheap shotting girl B. I could see the Ill intent on girl A's face and by the wat she was walking towards this girl with her backed turned to girl A I responded quickly and with perfect timing I pushed the punch in mid swing and made her miss. It would've been a wallop too! For a couple weeks after that every time I seen girl B I would sing the "HIT SONG" from Whitney Houston " AND I will always love you. YOU know from the movie the body guard. Well........that's all I got but it counts!

Bodyguarding like many "action" careers is really not all that exciting. If it is, you have done one or more things seriously wrong, and your client is in jeopardy as a result. Skill as a martial artist or fighter is definitely secondary to an understanding of the world around you. I can't even begin to go into it here, but bodyguarding is not a simple thing to do. It requires tons of planning and homework if you want to do it right. Go to a good school to start with. Doing anything less is irresponsible and puts your client at risk.

Not all arts/teachers teach you ways of "understanding the world around you" that relates specificaly to bodyguarding. You can be aware but if you dont know what your looking for it wont matter.

Cha,
and I bet they don't get into Partical Acceleration or Quantum Physics either!?!?
A large part of training is protecting yourself, and eventually, if you're really good, protecting others, just like Jet Li in that one movie!
A very important part of that sub-part is recognizing threat potential of people, places and things (also known as nouns).
Ergo:
understanding of the world around you
Maybe?

The law of tyranny:
1. Any power that can be abused will be abused
2. Abuse always expands to fill the limits of resistance to it.
3. If people don't resist the abuses of others, they will have no one to resist the abuses of themselves, and tyranny will prevail.

Some of the things you will need:
Be able to pass a rigorous back ground check (federal in the U.S.).Hold a commercial chauffeur’s license with a course in reactive (defensive) driving. Hold a federal arms permit. You will need good risk assessment skills and counter surveillance skills. Fire arms training is a must. Willingness to go to dangerous parts of the world. This is where you will find most of your work. Most important a good resume. Like I said Police officers and special operators are most sought after. Also if you have P.I. license can help. There are schools out there that teach you the skills if you go this route make sure their reputable. They are also very expensive and no guarantee you will get work.
When I first got out of the service I have an uncle who is a P.I. and I did some jobs for him. His best friend is a cop who moonlights doing executive protection and I was on his team for a year. The work was too sporadic and not enough to make a living doing that only. I also did some bounty hunting for my uncle and friend good money there but I kinda’ felt slimy doing it. About three years ago I was helping a friend do some repo work felt slimy with that too. Haven’t done any protection work in years but I imagine the market is pretty damn good right now. Especially with certain international groups. If you’re interested in this line of work Start by networking getting to know people in the biz’ going to a school will help get you into contact with the people you need to know. So it might be worth the expense just for that.
I have also worked for international aid relieve organizations with transporting medical equipment and supplies in war torn regions such as the Balkans (Bosnia). There always looking for people to provide security. Mostly finding safe routes of travel that’s what I did. I scouted travel routes and assessed risk/safety. I also contacted locals to help as escorts and translators, also talked with police and other authorities/government (when safe to do so) about safe vs. unsafe places. However if we got stopped at a check point and armed bad guys wanted the supplies I would have given them up. So this is a different type of security work. Just depends on what you want to do.
I got into this because I knew people and had good solid skills with a 45 and other weapons (thanks to Uncle Sam), and knowledge of communications equipment. Not because I was a martial artist (no one even asked) that’s the best way. Good luck with your indevers.
