  • "martial arts" on brittish eurosprt

anyone else watch the martial arts demonastrations on brittish eurosport, being held in france?

completely fake but some of it looked good (the "kata artistique" was very acrobatic at some points" and the penjak silat children were doing some very flashy choreography including flips and leg throws)

im too easily persuaded by these things: i was like: "i need to do kobudo, penjak silat, karate, and aikido. ok wheres the nearest dojo" but then i calmed down: the master of penjak silat was crap, so was the weapons tehcniques in it (neither flashy nor effective). the karate was so obvoisly staged, the aikido "attackers were running with there arm raised then diving onto the floor (for one "move" the aikido guy just stood there and his opponent bounced off him sideways and rolled onto the floor

even the muay thai demo was crap (i was forced to insult my own style) and the kung fu and wushu demos werent as good as i expected (these are supposed to be flashy arts good for demos)

the commentator was such an idiot. i need to get some kind of revenge. he said things like:

"aikido is devastatingly effective for defence"
"muay thai has lots of flashy high kicks"
"the samurai have undeniable inner strength"

his name was will vanders (name taken for revenge purposes, if you meet him please educate him, include as many beatings as you think are necessary.)

its on again at 4 o'clock

    watch if you dare

Doesn't any of you have a TV card? I can't get Eurosport here (only I I take UPC digital and pay 15+ euros extra)
I would love to see it captured and shared via P2P (as I'm doing with my MA videos)
Or I can setup a little FTP where we can dump the sheit and others can take it
French Judo demos usually kick ass, as do several others ( my dad used to go to france once every year with a judoteam of our club ( he used to be a judoteacher)

if any of you have a nice connection and a few UFC/Pride divx's let me know..

and yes, the demonstrations were horrid! i liked the national geographic part about Thaiboxing, history, background and a look into the lives of those who _have_ to fight to live.. it was very good!

yes ive seen that thing about muay thai before

my roundhouse kick became more powerful after i watched it (either i made me want to hit harder or i subconciously learned how the thais did it)

The Kyokushinkai cheated in their breaking demonstrations. They broke the baseball bats but they broke them at the handle where it is much thinner. The using a knife hand to chop a stone was also trickery, he lifted one side of the stone up before he hit it the final time, he didnt chop it in half, he used a knife hand to push the stone into the anvil, since the anvil was harder than the stone, the stone broke into two peices.
I used to be interested only in the self-defence aspect of martial arts but now I'm begining to see their usefulness as sports, fighting is good excercise and requires you to use speed, strength and strategy. The trouble with team games is that those who are good at the sport are held back by those who aren't so good.
I prefered the Shou bo demonstration to the aikido one, it had more varied techniques.
