Yes I'm going to ignore Bri Thai as much as possible. Making fun of ramus, that's an activity we can do together. "Yo now I'm doing aikido its the best style in the world, no wait now I'm doing wing chun except I haven't even been to a single lesson, no Ive given that up and now I'm doing white crane kung fu. I think it will help me with my high school wrestling."

I thought that we weren't supposed to insult each other anymore. Or is insulting Ramus still considered OK?

Just when the "war-of-words" was hotting up nicely,
...."ITS ALL GONE QUIET OVER THERE" !

Lizard, be a devil, ...take the bait-mate !

I'd expect a karateka to decline the challenge,

but you knowing better than that,

So you should rise to a bit of "verbal-sparring" !

If that dont work then you can always use your secret weapon,
              The invincible tecnique.....
.....the ledgendary "Block and punch with the same hand".

That'll sort out any arguement !

              Lizard, on a serious note,

Dont challenge them or criticise them.

              Simply "expose" their inadequecies!
              Talk means nothing,
              prove it when sparring.
Believe me, You will go right through them.

I have been in your situation too many times to remember,
but why try and change them,
use their ignorance to your advantage,
What a great way to practice,
you have a moving punchbag !
That can hardly hit back !

Ps ...I remember often being told-off for puinching and kicking too hard, and that was on the rare occasions when we'd hit PADS!

How can you hit a pad too hard,?????????????????
Mustn't cause them unneccesary pain !!!!
Perhaps even "pads" have feeling !

Greenpeace are probably drawing up a new European directive right now.......(you read it here first) !
              "Rights for pads" !!!!!!!!!!

              But Lizard,
KARATE is a effective at self-defence,
As the UK were at the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST !

And for those of you that didnt see it,
              we scored a massive........."NIL-POINTS"!

I saw them at the gym yesterday. I think the old master was demonstarting how to punch a wall. He was bullied by walls as a child and had to learn to defend himself. Here's something I read on a website, Shotokan planet 101:

We've all trained with this guy. He's trained by The Master, and he thinks he's Junior Master. He was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, has never been to Japan, doesn't speak a lick of Japanese save for some karate terms, and yet he has the most amazingly difficult time speaking English around his Japanese accent.
You haven't trained with him before? I have. "Musta to making to front stance." I've actually heard that spoken by a guy teaching karate in the Southeastern United States, and I don't even think this particular fellow has ever been any closer to Japan than California. "Make ah fronto stansu!"

What's really sad is that being someone who actually speaks Japanese, I can't understand what he is trying to say. He's putting on the accent the best he can, but I can't understand it because he's got it all wrong. So, I sit there, after two decades of karate training and 7 years of studying Japanese, and I wait to see what his white belt students do before I move. By now, I'm laughing to myself so hard that tears are coming to my eyes, but I'm trying to be quiet. When I can understand him, it's because his thick Southern accent has overpowered his phoney-baloney Japanese accent. They sometimes mix in comical fashion.

                  Lizard,
The karate joke book is large and full of anedotes of laughable tecniques , rules and instructions............
And as new people sip from the "cup-of-tomfoolery",
                  then so the book grows.

You have just given me an idea,
I think I can feel a new thread coming on..........
                  (check press for details) .....

                          Ryanhall

                          You are mistaken,

                          I am not anti-Karate.

I am ANTI INADEQUATE SELF DEFENCE.
Of which very often karate falls into this category.

Now I presume that your style is not one of these.

                          So I must ask,

                          Why are you therefore, offended????????????????

An Inadequate football coach who couldnt play football,
but could do lots of gimmicks with the ball,
would not get any respect or for that matter WOULDNT GET PAID.

                          But Karate instructors are often,
competant at kata but thats about all.

Now kata is more closely related to dancing than fighting !

So these types of self-defence(of which karate is not the only culprit) are mis-leading and even dangerous,
especially for children who are under the impression that they are being taught by an instructor, whom they believe in without question, and in good faith.

And so his inadequacies are encouraged and incorperated into their styles.
Now when people are unknowingly paying good money for the pleasure of being taught this ineffective hype, then it's a con !

And only people involved in it would defend it.

Like I say, Ryanhall, it probably does not effect you in any way,
and I hope it doesnt, but go to some clubs and look at what is being taught, and if you know anything about self-defence, then you will see for yourself.

These people are in it for the money only.

                          Like I say.....
                          Its the great self-defence scandal!

Because you whine a lot and generally act like a five year old. Translation: You contribute nothing but vitriole and you persist in being a pain in the ass.

go to some clubs and look at what is being taught, and if you know anything about self-defence, then you will see for yourself.
I have seen what these clubs teach. It won't work for self-defense. I do know a thing or two about how to protect myself and others. Don't take my word for it, read what I write and cross-reference it with people who know their stuff. That doesn't mean that I am the Messiah who will bring to light all of the inadequacies of a person's or group's training. If someone asks me what I think, I'll tell them. Until then, I feel that I have no right to go disrupt whatever someone enjoys learning. I won't respect someone who teaches nonsense and passes it off as self-defense, but I understand that there are a number of reasons for learning martial arts. I got over my need to tell other people why I was right and they were wrong on general principal at age 17. That was a while ago. Maybe when you reach that ripe old age, you too will get over your "karate issues."

Note: I am not and have never been a student of Karate or any other similar traditional martial art other than Hapkido. I don't have any loyalty to TMAs, and my problem is with what you say alone.
