I believe Ernesto Hoost also trained with Johan Vos a former Mejero gym student ( my former Savate/kickboxing/thaiboxing teacher)
Most contactsportsinstructors have a link to the 2 school either direct or indirect
I personally think the dutch fighters have been an important factor in the popularisation (darn what a word) of Muay Thai

What you say makes sense, but it has its flaws.

If we took chuck norris jim kelly and some others, and put them in a no holds barred competition against muay thai kick boxers and japanese karate fighters, and others, we would have variying results. Some matches the karate guys will win, other jujitsu warriors, and in some thai boxing

For instance, Gracie a remarkable fighter, ALMOST lost to a karate fighter. Kimo something, i forgot his name. Gracie won the battle(of coarse, he CANT lose ) but was too injured to fight the next match.

Also, take a thai boxer, and take him to japan. He will lose to those hard core karate teachers, under the rules of full contact karate sparring. Just as a karate fighter would lose against a thai fighter in a fullcontact thai boxing competition. I respect both thai boxing and shotokan karate greatly, i respect them both. But it all depends on the fighter, and HOW an art is being taught, not the style it self.

Actually, Chuck and the Boys would get slaughtered by most MMA Guys today, and the Muay Thai guys back then. Realize that the karate champions who DID go to Thailand were beaten silly. Thai rules do encompass most karate and kickboxing regulations. The only difference is that Muay Thai utilizes elbows, knees and wicked low kicks. The karate guy can throw all the techniques he wants, he’ll still lose.

Muay Thai guys can easily fight with karate rules... Alot of guys, including Rob Kaman have fought guys like Jean Therault with kickboxing rules and decimated the competition with their powerful kicks and conditioning.

With all due respect, Kimo wasn’t using karate... He was simply using his power and size to overcome the smaller Gracie. Consequently, when it came to a larger opponent, like Ken Shamrock, Kimo was tapped out.

This may be open to debate, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Full contact karate is nothing like Muay Thai. As I’ve stated before, full contact karate rules can be applied to Muay Thai. Here’s some food for thought. The Chinese Sanshou team have repeatedly defeated Japanese karate. Their biggest competition are the Thais.

Which group of karate guys Great Sage? Were they Kyokushinkai? I've seen the results of the SS vs MT but not the karate fighters. The SS team also beat American boxers but the rules and results were a little skewed.

Don't rule Norris out too quick, he's now a Machado Black Belt.

            Ah... It's me pal Brokenelbow.

I don't know which group of Karate, as I don't keep up with karate. I have seen the DVD's featuring SS vs. MT and SS vs. Boxing. I read on a website that SS has defeated karate for some time now.

On Norris, yes... The Old Guy's been busy training. A lot of those guys, like Jim Kelly have flocked to the Brazilians since seeing Royce Gracie in action. I get the feeling they felt intimidated after seeing how effective BJJ really was. Jim Kelly trains directly with the Gracies and I know that Norris is associated with Machado. In one Walker Episode, Norris clearly demonstrates his knowledge of JJ and Muay Thai — He's now a MMA guy, just like everyone else!
