Just want to say that if you practive for 10 years, then all those advanced and complicated moves become easy, and you can do them as if they were basic. Just my two cents.

Does BJJ become ineffective?

My two cents...I have been practicing BJJ since 1997. I have been fighting since I was 7 years old though. I can tell you that even though BJJ may not be the 'ultimate sport' as described by some of you, it definitely has been producing hardcore and determined fighters that hate losing.
What this says to me is that it may not be entirely the art, but the caliber of the fighters it attracts. BJJ practiotioners are not quitters. We have the opportunity to test our skills as realistically as possible every day on the mat.
If you think BJJ is not for you...then please...get out of it. Our instructors have worked hard to make it what it is now and I believe we should maintain it as one of the most effective self defense methods out there. That also means that we should maintain the level of skill required to advance at a high.
I measure 5'7" and weigh 160 lbs. Even though I have always been pretty gutsy, I have never been more secure and sure of my capacity as I am now thanks to BJJ.
Do what you must, but stop whining.

I will say this much I have been training in the martial arts since I was a child and I have tried just about every art out there for a short time just to see what it was like and I can definately say that the BJJ people are the most dedicated I have seen and the most willing to go out and roll with people. Most of the classes I have taken in the past would only meet 2 days a week which is pretty standard whereas my BJJ class meets 5 days a week and we roll every time we are in there. Not to mention the fact that everyone in the class competes in tournaments and most of the people in the class compete in the NHB.
I would definately say that there is a different mindset in the people that do BJJ than other martial arts I have tried.
O and one more thing........out of all the arts I have tried BJJ has the toughest guys I have met so far and if you don't like that
