My fav' is the 45 (acp). Colt makes the 1991 model perfect for self-defense. It's compact easy to shoot and reliable, and a accurate son of of gun (son of the 1911 series that is).

I also love anythig sig-suer. the sig .357 is my fav' here.

Other okay rounds are .40, and 10mm. I do not like 9mm but they are usually cheaper and easy to shoot too. Won't stop like the other rounds though.

Stay away from magnums to much over penatration and harder to shoot for inexperianced shooters.

The simplist hand guns are the Glocks relitively inexpensive and highly reliable They usually have double stacked magazines for higher round capacity but you better have large hands especially for 45's otherwise hard to shoot. 9mm not to bad.

Smaller calibers are easier to conceal but lack power. I wouldnt go there unless your a girl.

For a self-defense carry guns stay away from cheap nock-offs like tarus and chinese noricos. I recomend colt, ruger, browning, sigs, and clocks. However theres a long list of good makers out there, just watch out for south american and asian rip offs. Some are good but you never know. You don't want a fire arm failure when you need the protection the most.

I prefer the Glock Model 26 for a concealed carry weapon. I used to carry a model 17 but now opt for the 26. As for jamming, these are probably the only two pistols I own that have not jammed. In most cases, jams are caused by the ammunition used. Stick with a quality brand of ammunition and you should be ok.

Colts can be finicky with ammo glocks aren't so bad. For SF loads aways use good quality ammo as rruffian said.

"But when it comes down to my saftey I'm the only one that counts."

That's good point. At the end of the day you're the only one that matters, do whatever necesarry to protect yourself.

This is just simply not true. Glocks are one of the best gun makers in the business and have been for quite awhile. Glocks do not jam easily, unless they are not taken care of well enough, I mean for god sake's man, as durable as they are, they are no AK-47. I mean you can't drudge a Glock thru mud and expect to shoot it. Also, I would never own a .22. The problem being, in a gun fight you are not going to have the opportunity to shoot the enemy several times so he can then "sing a different tune". Go for a glock and get something with some stopping power. I like the ol Glock 20 (10 mm). And Shoot Straight

Glocks are very reliable hand guns. I have owned 3 glocks over the years 2 9mms and a .45, neither of the 9's ever jamed and the .45 only once I was using reloads and the glock didn't like them.

Also several military and police forces use them.
