Judo Guy,
Thanks for the insightful posts.
However, I think you should think a second longer on your comments aboyut a Republic as oppossed to a Democracy.
A Republic is basically an Aristocracy. In a Republic there is even more chance for tyranny when it deems that only the most scholarly, and privileged have the right to cast their vote.
Plato believed in slavery, as did most everyone at the time, and I don't think we should be taking suggestions on Government from the mouths of ancient Greece.
A progressive Democracy is what we strive for, and what we should always strive for, a Republic is for the privileged, righteous, and the tyrannical.
If this is what you are suggesting then George W. Bush is not worthy of his status in our "Republic."
I hope this is not what you are suggesting.
As for your comment on the most educated being the ones who vote Republican.
Well, the most privileged vote Republican, and this is why they have trouble empathising with the less fortunate.
Aren't the conservatively inclined the ones who claim that the liberal support in this country comes mostly from academics, and the prfessorial type?
The word "intelligent" is a highly relative term, and I don't base it on status or the amount of money you pull it annually.
If this election proved anyhting it is that people have very little interest in the issues other than the tax cut that they've been hearing about, and most likely will not receive.
