One particular thai boxer that came down and trained with us,
was a little skinny bloke about 5'7-5'8'' and really quiet and shy.
HE ALMOST SEEMED NERVOUS, we presumed it was because he was nervous of fighting.
But he wasnt, he was always that way, even when not fighting.

Anyhow we all took it in turns and had a go against him
and shocked us with just how tough and good he was !

Then the really humbling bit was that,
he said he'd been fighting in Thailand for many years,
      but wasnt particularly good !

We all developed cartoon donkey ears as we let out a "eee-orr" !
As we all endulged in a helping of mama's homemade humble-pie !

Yves is not a huge guy either but I fear sparring him. His hands are extraordinarily quick, especially his uppercut and his thai kicks are scary.

Falcon, I have not trained with Lee; but I have met and trained with 3 of Mike's students via South Main boxing (Main Street gym) - if you're a wealthy guy, its not a place to hang out but see for yourself...

Mike Altman has some really good fighters and I have a lot of respect for them.

Na, I was just wondering cuz that Lee King and another guy from Houston came down here and fought NHB in New Orleans a few weeks ago. I don't know what the other guys name was but he was really big (not all muscle). They both did MT and they both fought some of my freinds.

Falcon, why were you so tempermental?

You say its because you're a Southern Louisianan, but one of my best friends is from Houma (but lived most of his life in NO), is an elder gentleman and has the patience of a saint.

Some fighters I met from BR were level headed too, even after a few rounds at the bar.

When I asked if you wanted to train with thaipads, you didn't understand what I was talking about and challenged me to fight? Why?

Sorry man, I just don't like it when people say that I haven't done something that I have done. Truth be told I started doing martial arts when I was 5 and tried different kinds, and I quit when I was 18 to go to the service. It has been several years since I trained but I am now getting back into it. It just offended me when you assumed that I had not taken anything and I don't like being called a liar.

I was there when Lee King fought my buddy Melvin. That was a damn good fight, the guy King looks like a pretty good MT fighter. It ended in the third round when Melvin got a rear naked choke on King. The other guy (the big one) fought my buddy Ricky False (I've trained with him some) who is also a MT guy. I didn't really care for Ricky's fight because it ended after the first round when the guy from Houston gave up after only being hit 3 times. I will admit that Ricky has an extremely hard right though. I saw the guy in the room upstairs after the fight and those 3 hits had 3 big ass knots swole up on his head and he could not stand up for about an hour after the fight was over. Ricky is fighting again at the Beau Rivoge casino on August 9th, and I'll be cool with you, if you wanna come and hang out with me and the other guys from my class I'll even pay your way in. I didn't mean to get all offensive I just don't like being called out.

                Hey Tom,

I think you're right about Sambo, everything I've heard seems to tie in w/wrestling. It's a Sambo and Systema school, Systema is used by the Russian Special Forces, it'll be a good comparison to U.S. SF training if nothing else, I'll let you know what I find out.

Dude, the only reason why you got called out was obvious - no offense man. I respect your honesty and appreciate the invite. I think I can front the $$$ for now, but thanks for the offer. I know a few guys that travel interstate to watch and fight throughout the south; they love the road trips.

Mike's fighters train in San Shou, which is a Chinese version of MT, but its hard to find local San Shou fighters cause they aren't as organized as MT but are close enough in style, you know. They are good all-round fighters which takes a lot of hard work and also why I respect them. Its easy to fall in the trap of getting decent at stand up and staying mediocre at grappling.

Just answer me one thing Tom, what did I say that made you say I have no knowledge of the Martial Arts?

And I am not trying to start an arguement, I am just wondering what I said that was so horrible and what information that I gave you that was insufficient in your mind.

I was just wondering what I said. I guess it really doesn't matter cuz I don't train in that anymore, like I said I have been doing BJJ and MT. I just want to know what he is saying is so "obvious" about what I said.

                              Falcon,
                              I admire your honesty.
which do you think would help you personally the most in a real fight, mt or bjja ?

For me, MT. I am not much of one to get on the ground and fight. Never had done it before I went to BJJ class and it showed. If I have any choice at all because of my size and strength I much prefer to stand toe to toe with someone. Not to mention the fact that most people if I get them on the ground on the street and tap them and I let go they are just going to start back up.

I think some things weren't really taken into consideration with BJJ (mainly weapons and ground conditions). Don't get me wrong I think BJJ is great and I love doing it (hell of a cardio workout). I just don't really think that if I get into it with a guy on the street and he has a knife I am going to run in there and tackle him, or if he has some buddies with him I don't want to be on the ground giving them free shots while I am trying to take the first guy out. Also I wonder if I ever have to use it what kind of ground I am going to be on because concrete, gravel, and grating are not as forgiving as padded mats.

                                I don't know, that's just my 2 cents.......take it for what it's worth.
