    Hey everyone, I'm new to the board and I've just started training in MT and BJJ. I also did about five years of traditional Ju Jitsu. My question is what is a good way to condition your legs to withstand leg kicks?

    Welcome aboard, you will need another kind of defence system,
    a good sence of humour !

    When you say leg kicks, you mean round house?

    Then best thing is to simply have your partner throw roundhouse kicks at you and you leg/shin block them.

    It better than hitting trees in my opinion as your are also learning how to read and react to a kick, whilst conditioning.

    You will get lumps and bumps on lumps and bumps !

    But in time you will get a calcium build up,
    also the nerves will become less sensitive.

    It's not so much that thai boxers can endure extreme physical shin pain, they simply dont feel it as much !

      Free faller, the best way to condition your legs is to train hard. Most pro-thaiboxers throw maybe 1,000 thai kicks per day into the bags and pads. You hit soft pads first and then work your way up to concrete like (not kidding) pads. You also do light to med contact sparring drills, Ex you kick, I shin block - vice versa.

      At first you are not going to be able to walk. Then when your technique develops, your power comes, then your speed and before you know it you are nailing the piss out of the concrete-like pads and moving the guy holding it even though he is bigger. Its a lot of hard repetitive work for a long period of time; there's no other way. When your shins are toughened, you will be able to kick your opponents kick (usually happens by accident) and he will be wincing in pain, while you are still standing. This is especially good against other kicking styles like TKD.

      I've seen pics of light weight thai boxers fold bags with their kicks. The scary part is that the bags are filled with sand and are busting open.

        You will also realise that the mt roundhouse is different from the karate type !

            There is a great way for leg conditioning that full circle uses.......
            uses a ladies philishave to remove all hairs,
            then a leg wax, probably turtle car wax from rita's car place,
            then a nice moisteriser that must be applied in small but FULL CIRCLES by an akido wig wearing secretary !

            Your legs will be like new,
            they wont help you against roundhouses,
            but apparently fullhouse reckons they are a real suck-cess in the showers !

            Dont forget the rubber handled skipping ropes,
            that full house calls the denver-dildo's

              Ha Ha Ha

              Thanks for the replies guys, I pretty much figured the only way to condition your legs was by various kicking drills with a partner shin on shin.

              Choke you seem like a funny guy, its cool I can handle it. I chose the name freefaller because I'm a skydiver with 1000+ jumps.

                  Freefaller, 1000 jumps !

                  Have you never had any incidents ?

                  My mates wife did a parrachute charity jump last year and past out in mid air, she only suffered a few breakages though !

                  Braver than facing a muay thai boxer who kicks like a donkey !

                        hey freefaller, good luck with your training and get those shins and thighs ready for abuse....might want to buy some menthol rub in advance, otherwise you'll be fine. Good luck.
