If so then taht is due to the sheer speed of his kick, most kickboxers can kick to save their lives i dont consider kickboxing to seriously include kicks as they are on the whole the worst kickers in martial artss in my opinion.

American style kickboxers can kick hard. Kathy Long won alot of her fights with hard kicks - she's KOd heavier male sparring partners with them.
If Bill Wallace can kick with more power than Don the Dragon, it doesn't mean that Don the Dragon's kicks are terrible. It just means that Bill's kicks have better technique, speed and power.
Don't forget some of them have backgrounds in TKD. But most of the successfull ones have better boxing skills than kicking.Last edited by Tom Yum; 07-17-2003, 02:51 PM.

Yeah well i dont dipute a few im just refering to the average not the elite.
Sorry to say but to me it looks like whenever people here think something isn't it, they metion the average practitioner but then they seem to compare it with top practitioners of say MT
the average joe is the average joe no matter what art he does
someone who trains averagely will only have average skills
compare people with equal training time (in hours not in years) so do not compare people who tend to train 5 days a week 2 hours or more a day with people who train 2 times a week 1 hour per training
Most MT fighters (at least in holland) here have 5-10 times as much training time (mainly because they do not have a job yet)
I've seem a lot of people training MT for 2 x a week and they are just as crap as the average joe karateka ( dutch kickboxing is almost the same as MT) these people do not have the objective to fight in the ring, to them MA are just a nice form of fitness

Yes I know that to be true in holland but over here there are no fulltime gyms and the UK over here the KB guys train the same as the MT guys.
Kick boxers cant kick, thats it.

PKA style kickboxers can't kick ( or just with one leg like Wallace)
WKA style tends to look more like the dutch/japanese type
I do agree that a lot of both PKA and WKA stylefighters do NOT understand the lowkick, they think they can take them because the leg is full of muscles
the term kickboxer has the same value as the term chips, depending where you come from it can mean something different although related
here kickboxing is the same as MT and has the same value seems in some countries it is just another name for the old Fullcontact-Karate

Hey guys, I think I have an interesting comment to add on the subject of Muay Thai vs. TKD. Go on Kazaa and look for Muay Thai vs. Tae Kwon Do and you'll get about a 20 meg video that shows a tournament between one MT guy and a TKD guy. Apparently the TKD guy was terrible and American and he got slaughtered by the Thai boxer from Thailand, anyway, its a great video, but there are a lot of arts with equally hard kicks including Savate and Hsing-I (kicks are low but powerful like you wouldn't believe).
Oh, and on the subject of kick defense, there was an article in Black Belt magazine about how Wing Chun has the ultimate kick defense, it was pretty interesting.

they all felt they got something out of it
Until the driving force behind it had to focus on his own school and fighters ( like Lucia Rijkers) who were champions
Seems that he is thinking of trying it again
Problem is he got the top fighters to fight for very little money because there is very little payment in Savate/boxe francaise
Will he get the Present topfighters so far to do the same
what it gave me to start with is I became more flexible without the use of real stretching excercises
PS I do have diploms for Savate Instructor but not putting them to use

What r we asking?
Can an average TKD beat an average MT?
Or can an expert TKD beat an expert MT?
& an expert TKD beat an average MT & vice versa?
It's obvious an expert will beat an average fighter more times but that's not the issue, the issue is what's the hardest kick?
first you need to take these into account:
1. the skill of the fighter.
2. the type of kick thrown.
3. the weight of the fighter.
4. & MOST important: the conditioning of the opponent receiving the kick.
So if the fighter in ANY MA scores higher on the above he should statistically win.
I have lived & breathed MT but that doesn't mean i believe that my style has the hardest or the best kicks (that's just a lame ass attitude) as iv'e seen some fantastic KO's & TKO's in all styles of MA (tkd & kickboxing included).
ps: anybody that say's a kickboxer cant kick obviouslly has only ever received a kick from a pussy!!!
& there are dedicated full time gym's in the UK but you have to be prepared to travel.
