  • David Tua vs. Lennox Lewis Updates

Ladies and Gentleman we are minutes away from the David Tua- Lennox Lewis fight. Lua is being led to the ring with the music of his native Samoa playing in the background (sounds like some sort of horn). Here is the tale of the tape

    Lewis Tua
    age 35 27

    reach 84 inches 69 inches

    height 6'5" 6'2"

    weight 249 245

An online poll show internet users prefer Tua to Lewis by 56-44 percent. Of course Lewis is the odds on favorite.

I'll try my best to update the fight in between rounds because only a minute is given to me to type the descriptions will be brief but I'll try to give you a sense of how the fight is going. I'll probably mess up a few times so forgive me when you read it in the paper! I'll be updating on this thread.

Lewis is coming to the ring and crowd and he looks focused. The music in the background sounds Jamaican and the crowd applauds his arrival. Both fighters seem to have a good amount of fans in the ring.

Michael Buffer is the ring announcer. No surprise there. It is being held at Mandalay Bay in beautiful Las Vegas Michael tells us and says Lets get ready to rumble!

Out of the blue corner will be Tua. Out of the red corner will be Lewis.

Our referee tonight is Joe Cortez. He's giving instructions both fighters make the mandatory eye contact.

    Now let's get it on.

            Round 5,

Howard Lederman gave round 4 to Tua. I'm not one to argue.

1:55 mark Lewis puts together a nice combo. Lewis jabbing more effectively. Tua only throwing one punch at a time. Best punch for tua at 1:25 mark a right. Lewis continues to jab.

            Round to Lewis

Lewis jabbing early in the round. Tua a big left at 2:00 minutes and at 1:40. Nothing much happens after. Tua needs to throw more combos and more punches.

I give the round to Tua just because of the two big punches. I could be wrong.

Looks like I am wrong. The announcer gives round 6 to Lewis. I believe it.

Round 7 is a yawner more of Lewis jabbing and Tua not throwing punches. Crowd boos at 2:00 minute mark.

                    Round 8

Can you say boring? More of the same. Tua opens with a combo and does nothing for the rest of the round. Lewis continues to jab with an occassional combo. Where is Mike Tyson when you need him?

Lewis still landing jabs hits a nice left hook at 1:20 Tua not doing anything. Lands one left in the round that I can see.

                        Round 10

Lewis lands a great right/uppercut combo early and they mix it up for the first time at the 2:30 mark. It all ends around 2:15 mark. Lewis putting it together more. Tua has a good left at 1:00 mark, but Lewis makes him pay with a combo to body.

                          Round 11,

I think these guys spent too much time in charm school during their early years. Nothing is hapening. Scattered boos. Tua once again lands one left hook. 30 second Lewis puts together a nice left right left combo. Lewis finishes round 11 strong. Please let this all end soon.

Tua's corner says you've done nothing to win the title now go out there and win it. He's right. Let's see if Tua listens.

Nope. Not a word sinks in. Tua still does nothing despite this being the last round of the World Heavyweight Championship. Lewis just hangs on. People wonder why Tyson still captures the imagination of the fans? I don't. Tyson and Gollotta as bizarre as it was, had more action than this snoozefest.

                            Rd 12 to Lewis.

I have no doubt Lewis won the fight. Lederman has the fight 117-111. Lets see what the judges say.

The referees agree big unanimous decision for Lewis.

I'm sorry, but I knew this was going to be a joke fight.

A big fat non-talented short guy vs. a tall, rangy, cur who would rather hug his way to victory than prove his superiority.

Too bad, but thanks for the update.
