Curious about peoples favorite MMA Fighters.

I am new to the board and wanted to get a feel for who everyones favorite fighter is and why. Mine as it says in my sig is Don Frye the reasons why are simple.

1. He is a great ground artist being a world class wrestler and has some of the sickest throws I have ever seen anyone do.

2. He is the type of fighter that does not give a damn...Even being a wrestler and being much more comfortable tossing for position on the ground he will stand and go toe to toe with who ever his opponent may be.


All and all I believe The Predator to be the total package, not the best fighter in the world but without a doubt very well rounded. Even if he is now to old to readily compete...hell his buddy Severn is still fighing and is three years older then him.

I also like Royce Gracie.... people can debate how great of a fighter he was etc. but I really liked his composure and cool in the first UFC's. Also, the way he hung in against Severn and Kimo showed great heart.

Guy Mezger is also another one of my fav's.

I like Frank Shamrock. He is a conditioning demon.

After watching Smashing Machine I gained a lot of respect for Bas Ruttan.

And you gotta love Sakuraba!

Frankie Shamrock is a machine, and Sakuraba is awesome plus the name Grazie Hunter makes me respect the guy, just to got out there and call out one of the most if not the most recognized family in martial arts today....there is something cool about that.

As for Bas Rutten.....He is the devil and you are now one of his servants....you sold your soul my friend....

As a combatant I have respect for Bas, he is one of the hardest strikers...(Who is not a mutant like Bob Sapp) I have ever seen...Honestly the reason I can't stand him is becuase every time I watch Pride, listening to him do play by play makes me want to strangle someone..

As it says in my sig I am also an Iceman fan, for much of the same reason I am a Frye fan..

I also and a big Danny Coutire fan and can't WAIT for him to pound Tito Ortiz.

Hmm... There are a lot of great fighters out there, but I just to name a few favorites.

Sakaruba—Great entertainer (exactly what MMA needs) with some great moves.

Antonio Rodrigo “Nog”—He’s simply the best.

Hickson Gracie—He’s the undisputed Champion of the Gracies.

Fighters who didn’t make my cut:

Ken Shamrock—His attitude is worst than he is.

Royce Gracie—I used to think the world of him, but the guy can’t take pain... Has too much quit in him.

Tito Ortiz—It’s all about dead presidents.

That is quite the surprise... an actual thread about MMA..

I'm gonna have to vouch for almost the entire Brazilian Chute Boxe team (Wandelei Silva, Murillo "Ninja" Rua, Anderson Silva), those guys have some of the best conditioning I have ever seen.. Watching Ninja fight full out for 20 minutes, not giving the other guy a chance to breathe, and still have enough energy to defend an apparant take down defence from one of his cornermates while they were going to hoist him into the air, just astounds me.


I'm gonna have to agree with Mr. BG there on Bas Rutten.. good fighter and all.. but stick to what you know, he's a terrible announcer.. :P

I also respect Don Frye, not so much for his fighting abilities, not that they're bad, although they are far from absolutly astounding, but rather for the fact that he's never tapped out.. I've seen him dislocate his elbow instead of tapping... it takes a certain kinda guy to rather go out of training for a few weeks just so he doesn't tap..

everyone that usually want to Download Pride ( by means of DC++)waits for the version with Bas commentating especially for that

I honestly can't believe anyone would wait for a version with Rutten anouncing, the guy sounds like an idiot every time he coments and is one of the most bias anouncers I have ever heard.

I also like watching fighters like BJ Penn and Caol Uno (it's funny how he only wears his gi to walk into the Octagon). I also have a lot of respect for Randy Couture. He's tough, but he doesn't seem to mouth off at people every chance he gets!

Sakuraba....I've heard a lot about him but never seen him fight. I think I should buy some Pride DVDs!

ps - I like Royce. He had the balls to make 'em have it when it all began. He was the Gracie figurehead that woke up the martial arts world. And he's only about as heavy as my left leg.

Last night I was over Mr. HeelHook's house (Yes we are friends) And he showed me the Sakuraba, Silva fight for the pride middle weight championship. It is the first fight I have seen with Sakuraba..I had seen a lot of high lights of his actics and stuff but never a full fight and I must say he has earned my respect...Silva slamed him 3/4 of the way in the first round and broke his collar bone it was buldging out of his shoulder and he continued the fight till the ref called it at the end of the first...Didn't even show any pain...just pointed to the bump in his shoulder like what the hell is that thing...It was SWEET!
