  • This could just be a rumor, BUT...

I heard that Arona broke his ankle and that Murilo Bustamante is taking his place. Almost the same fighter but a bit older than Arona and 20 something pounds lighter. I wonder how much of a differance this will make.

    Taken from pridefc.com:

"Ricardo Arona Withdraws from Tournemant 8/8/2003

Due to a training injury suffered in Brazil on August 4th, Ricardo Arona has been forced to drop out of his opening round match against Quinton Jackson at PRIDE FC: TOTAL ELIMINATION.

Arona injured his ankle in training and made the journey to Japan with the intention of competing, but by the time he arrived in Tokyo, the injury had worsened.

At the urging of Dream Stage Entertainment, Arona was examined by Pride FC's official doctor, Dr. Kenji Nakayama. X-rays and an MRI were performed and it was determined that Arona has suffered damaged ligaments in his right ankle and a fractured Tibialis Posterior.

Because of the possibility of severe damage to the ankle, Dr. Nakayama will not allow Arona to compete in the August 10th tournament.

DSE regrets the injury and we are currently searching for a suitable opponent for Quinton Jackson, on par with the skill level of Arona and all of the other competitors in the middleweight tournament"

Bustamante would be a nice choice, but who knows who they're gonna put in there in Arona's place?
