Lee crossed trained. He even grappled with gene label. The second he wouldve gotten submitted by someone like rickson, he wouldve went nuts incorporating jj into his arsenal. Thats how he gained respect for gene label, gene through him across a table once(so i read).
But given time, someone like lee would or could be a very formidable opponent in a mma event.
Bruce Lee is dead. If Rickson faught his body, he would win. If Bruce Lee were alive, he would still be training in every type of martial art he could lay his hands on. Whether or not he, in his prime, could beat Rickson, in his prime, is purely speculative. Since, you know, one of them is... well, dead. As long as we're speculating the impossible, do you think Miyomoto Musashi would have lost to Helio Gracy?(I don't actually want an answer to that)
True Technique get my name right punk. Ive been with this forum longer than user names have been around. I was here when you were issued a number by Tim and not a name. I could never remember my name so I got it tattooed on my forearm. If I got banned now, what would be the point of having my ****ing tattoo you dickwad?
Anyway Bruce would be too fast for Rickson, Rickson is an old man beyond his prime. Bruce is fast and in prime condition. So what if he used steroids to get his strength, that would make him fit right in with most NHB fighters currently fighting. Anyone that thinks a grappler could take Bruce down is a dirty pothead themselves. In his book The Tao Of JKD he shows amazing knowlege of grappling and even shows submissions which everyone knows were not known by anyone at that stage except multi dan Judo and Ju Jutsu masters. Bruce figured out these submissions by himself and even may have influenced the Gracies with some of the techniques they "invented" in the late 60's and early 70's.
We have a lot more to thank Bruce for than you might think.
"841984373874, I do not care to say your name correctly "punk". I also don't care about how long your *ss has marinated on this forum because I could take a dump on that information but anyway....Enough Rickson vs. Bruce Lee because that is no longer a funny joke. Let's get even here, guys. Who would win in a fight between Bruce Lee and Minoki Ichihara? I think Minoki would win but Lee would have a shot. Minoki by TKO."
This thread is not stupid. 891477587 raised a discussion about how two fighters of totally different styles would have fared against each other. One is possibly the best grappler we know of, the other, one of the best strikers in history. If such a subject does not interest you, next time you should avoid clicking on a thread that CLEARLY states its content; not read it all then call it stupid.
Now to make a reply to this subject, In MMA events, strikers get taken down for 2 reasons:
1) No world class striker has entered any MMA event. For money and other reasons, it hasn't happened.
2) In MMA, true finishing moves (direct strikes to the groin or eyes, biting, smashing someone's windpipe) are illegal. No one is there to kill or maim their opponent.
These sort of illegal attacks are actually primary targets in JKD, and Bruce Lee was definitely well versed with them.
In a cage with rules against Rickson, Bruce Lee would see something he has never seen. A first rate grappler that would take him down and dominate him on the ground. On the street, with no rules, Rickson would see something he has never seen. An opponent with lightning speed and incredible power trying to take his life. Who would prevail depends perhaps on the circumstances. No one will ever know for sure.
More importantly Bruce Lee and Rickson Gracie do share something in common. They are both men that started by learning an art, and through time elevated it to an entirely new level. Both men dedicated their life to the martial arts, one through constant fighting, and the other through constant study and learning.
Calling them names is not a good reflection of who you are as a person, and definitely not as a supposed martial artist. As a martial arts student, I certainly have the utmost respect for both men.
