  • reason for training

was just wondering why do you train. I believe we are looking at about three catagories.

    1. fitness
    2. for protection
    3. sport

I personally and looking to be able to protect myself and my family. I don't have alot of time to get involved in sports and I feel like might fitness is adequite enough without training.

Do you feel that the reason for training has a impact on what you decide to take as far as martial arts.

Do you feel that, in certain setting, one style will have an advantage over the other.

I personally feel that you should cross train as much as possible and that the setting is a factor on what techniques to use.

Of course reason for training will affect what you train in.

Of course one style will have an advantage over another in a certain situation.

What if the enemy is carrying a weapon and what if there is more than one.

            What if....

Then your chances are less slim obviously. I hate when people say what if they have a weapon or there are more then one, ok we get it your ****ed then. But hell what if there is only one, and he is unarmed? Without the training maybe your kid would be gone, with it, maybe he lives. It might not always save you or your family, but it sure can give you better odds in many situations.

amen turing. you can say all the what ifs you want. If I thought about all the what ifs and was put off by them, then crap......nothing is going to work......why learn anything at all.

What if the sun doesn't come up tomarrow?

You deal with it and adapt to the situation. To me, that's what it means to be a complete martial artist. You dont just train in all ranges, but train to be adaptable and to "flow like water"
There is no such thing as "what if" if you can get your mind around it.

yeah what if 20 guys storm your house with nuclear arms and assault rifles and they are threatening to destroy the world :P .
even if there is multiple guys and some have some form of weapons surely u would have a better chance knowing martial arts than not knowing them...

                        EDIT - me = dumbarse
lol forgot to put my reason for training. I train so that i can defend myself and for the dicipline and stuff, also kos its fun.

I voted fitness because I just like the adrenaline

But reason for taking MA is because I like them, they are fun to do and individual sports, I do not like teamspors that much because they always involve competition
I have no need to prve myself better than someone else, I want to better myself

I do martial arts for fun. It's something I've always been passionate about.

And I'd rather do martial arts than play golf or cricket!
