For me the martial arts are for health and fitness. I am able to put more of myself into training than I am to bodybuilding or team sports. I've tried numerous sports over the years (basketball,football,swimming,water polo,) and I never liked the fact that you could put everything you have into a team and still lose. I'm not sore about losing, but if I'm gonna lose it will be on my shoulders, not anyone else.

reason for training

I don't train for any of the options listed.
I train mainly for
1. Fun and just the enjoyment of having friends and having something to do in the evenings
2. learning something cool and accomplishing goals, finally landing that sweep or escaping the guy who always keylocks you
I don't do it for self defense. If given no other option, of course I'll do my best to defend myself, but I fully plan on avoiding things, running, or trying for a peaceful solution.
jiu jitsu to me is just a strategy game.
