Yeah...I agree...that Filipino guys is @#$%ed up!! Totally demented. He went to another school last weekend and ripped their instructors in half. Also tried to gnaw on one's forehead like it was a frozen chocolate bar!

Just to clarify...I think that Volpato's is awesome. Good atmosphere and great instructors. These guys are professional and extremely knowledgable. They have kickboxers, grapplers and NHB fighters. Not to mention the numerous amount of police officers. Everyone else is in the Military. Doesn't seem to be an attitude there. Everyone made me feel very welcome my first week there. The Filipino instructor is hardcore and very well rounded. The main instructor is incredible. All around excellent place to train.

Let me say this. Do NOT listen to anything anyone says about your chances of getting anything on your Dream Sheet. You will pretty much be dealt an assignment that meets "the needs of the Air Force". What that means is that there will only be so many slots for a particular AFSC at any given base. People returning from OS assignments will get preference, and then the remaining slots that need filled at the remainder of the gaining bases pull in people from CONUS to CONUS transfers. Thats when your assignment will be drawn, and that will be from the bases that still need your AFSC. This is the point when your Dream Sheet will be reference--If any of the bases that need your AFSC are on your Dream Sheet then you might have a chance of getting a good base. What you need to do is find out what bases will be available for your assignment cycle when you get out of Tech School and then make preferences out of those to list on your Dream Sheet. Oh, and not all bases will be gaining people of a particular AFSC every assignment cycle (which are quarterly). That said, the best way to get a decent base is to either go Overseas and go "Indefinate"
or get a short tour (i.e. Korea or Turkey) and then you'll be given a a guaranteed assignment of your choice (NOTE: there are many stipulations with this method).

Also, do NOT go in under "open general". You absolutely MUST have a guaranteed job going into Basic Training, otherwise there's a 99% chance you'll end up as Security Police (or another job nobody else wants to go into). And don't let them fool you--SPs have one the WORST jobs in the Air Force, only behind the ditch diggers in Civil Engineering. They work terrible hours, often get shit on by their commands/units/bases, and generally all hate their life. Every single SP I've ever known has regretted it and either gotten out of the military or cross-trained into another career field.

Ask your recruiter about all this and post back his reply. I'm starting to think he's blowing sunshine up your ass (which most seem to do these days). If I can give you any advice about joining the military it'd be this: Take care of number one, because nobody else will.

Oh, this may help put things into perspective--everyone has seen these commercials, 1, 2, 3 right? Well how about this one? Everyone that I've ever known in the AF that's seen these all react the same way--we can't help but laugh because we all know how rediculously true it is.

Thats exactly right I am entering the DEP program for the amry in two weeks. I had planned on joining the air force. Nothing is guaranteed in the Air Force. You will work the afsc they need you at and you will be stationed where they want you. The base you were referring to was Wright Patterson Air Force Base I lived there for about a year when my dad was in the Army. The air force might have better conditions and everything but if what you want matters join the army. I scored a 77 on my asvab which is pretty good and i have excellent line scores I am going into the army with my pick of jobs. I know the job I will be doing now and I haven't went to the meps yet. I am going in as a petroleum supply spec with a 13 thousand dollar enlistment bonus. If you score decent on your asvab you will get the job you want in the army. I will also see a list of bases that need the mos I pick and have my pick of available bases. I would reccommend talking to recruiters from every branch before just deciding on one. I was dead set on joining the air force well I went to meet with him and he wasn't in so i talked to the other recruiters because they were in the same building and then went back and talked to the air force and after talking to everyone and weighing my options I decided on the Army. An according to my recruiters unless you choose a combat specialty mos you wont be exposed to much hand to hand combat after basic.

The Army hand to hand instructor who was training at the same school I train at explained military grappling like this. Get ahold of the guy, and keep him from killing you, until your buddy can get there and shoot the guy. I don't think they are as concerned with submissions as they are with getting good position on the opponent and keeping control until someone with a gun shows up.

The BJJ taught in the military is sound as far as it goes. But, you need to understand they are not trying to turn out BJJ experts. Nor are they expecting guys to use BJJ in battle for the most part. It is about getting used to the aggresive part of warfare and developing a fightinfg spirit more than anything else. The program I have seen was BJJ stripped down to 13 basic moves.

What are you talking about. The USAF gives you a choice to choose what you want or they will choose. If you have the scores you can come into whatever job you want, but watch out the recruiter might try and talk you out of it(they have quotas to meet). I came in and got only 7000 but hey when i reenlist in about a year i will get about another 40 to 60 thousand depending on ig i stay for 4 or 6 years. That is some thing else to look in to is the SRB the higher the better. As for combat they do not teach crap unless you are special forces and i think the SP's get a little.

And that is one of the most ignorant concepts I have heard regarding combat. Argued that with Matt Larson, or maybe it was his student that spouted off that crap, and then Matt came into the conversation. Thinking you could hold an enemy soldier on the ground and you'll be safe until your buddy trots along to shot him is going to get your butt killed.

You have your pick if and only if the job is available. You only have your pick of whats available not of everything. If you score good the army will get you any job whether they need it or not.
