Can hapkido actually be effectively used against a resisting opponent?

From what I've seen and read of Hapkido and the very little I got to experience it is a solid art. A really good reference for the grappling portion is Hapkido Hoshinsul from Alain Burrese.
I have a surprise for you....the principles that Hapkido uses for joint locks are the exact same principles that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, Judo, and other grappling arts use.
Big shock, I know.
Note of caution: Just like any other art you're going to get different flavors of Hapkido from different regions and instructors. Some emphasize certain things whilst other have their own particular favorites.
It's definitely worth checking into.
