  • Overworking

Is this truly as bad as people say it is? I always hear that overworking yourself produces negative results and that your muscles need rest, but aren't the best fighters in the world like those shaolin monks and fighters in thailand training their asses off every day? I'd love to train every day and become the best fighter i can, but all i hear is that overworking is negative.

With weightlifting, supposedly lifting more than 3 times a week is overworking but I hear often about people who lift every day or so and get amazing strength gains (benchpress for example).

I used to train everyday without repercussions... I don't think it's how often you train, it's how you train. If you're maxing out in the weight room each day, you're going to injure yourself.

You can certainly train techniques everyday. If you're doing weights, maybe use split routines. Cardio can also be done everyday to a degree. Serious fighters train everyday...

My training regimen is like this right now, I'd like to do more every day. On top of this stuff, i do 3-6 sets of weighted pushups 5 times a week at night with crunches, leg lifts, and sometimes squats. Sometimes I do the plyo and other stuff on tuesdays depending on how I feel. I'd like to do more because my goal is to participate in tournaments and be a great fighter.

      Sunday
2-3 hours at the gym, high intensity 5-10 reps and failure. Usually I do 6-10 individualized sets for each muscle group.
      Monday
Morning workout for abs. 6 sets upper 6 sets lower usually
Plyometrics, heavy bag, some cardio, stretching, and strong body conditioning.
      Tuesday
      Rest day
      Wednesday
2-3 hours at the gym, high intensity 5-10 reps and failure.
      Thursday
      2 hours of BJJ
      Friday
      Rest day
      Saturday
      2 hours of BJJ

I'm certianly no expert, but I'd say that shaolin monks couldn't fight any better than David Carradine.

Hash - those guys who train hours every day and get those freakish results owe their awesome recovery from the effects of training on steroids.

I am trying to do my little small routine every day, but I just get lazy, can't seem to get myself motivated, I aint even in a gym anymore. It ain't even a workout, It's just something i try to accomplish; No weights either, just body weight but somehow, I'm proud of it, some people can barely do 10 pushups without struggling heh

              stretch (about 5-8 mins)
4 sets 20 feet elevated pushups / rest 30 secs each set
              100 squats
6 sets 25 lunges (3 sets each leg) / rest 30 secs each set
3x25 bootstrappers rest / 30 secs each set
3x10 jumping squats (just started doing them) / rest 30 secs each set
              100 flutter kicks / rest 30 secs
              3x20 sit-ups rest / 15 secs each set
              100 flutter kicks rest / 30 secs
              stretch again (about 5 mins)

sometimes I skip rope, main goal 5 mins, then increase it for my maximum without stopping, final goal is 20 mins without stopping.

Looking for more to add also, I would GREATLY appreciate it if you guys can e-mail me of some pretty good calithenics workouts, especially with pics, you can PM me (something that is easy to do with proper form with only pics)

While we're on the subject of physical fitness, has anyone here tried the Atkins diet?

                  Poopy,

The Atkins diet has great short-term results - I lost like 3kg in the first 1.5 days and my jeans were suddenly too big. However, it leaves you really dehydrated, and it doesn't matter how much you drink, it just won't stay in your body (something to do with carbs containing the stuff that water binds to in order to travel round your body).

Dehydration is a pretty bad problem for everyone, but I guess for non-active people it's less of a problem. Anyway, if you work out a bit and you sweat, you lose even more fluids. So you get terrible cramps, itchy skin (from dryness), and for me, really painful lips.

I ended up going off Atkins because of a combination of really sorelips and going mental from not being allowed to eat fruit!

Apparently now there is some new warning about how bad Atkins is for you. Apparently, they've decided it's OK to go on for three days (I'm thinking in practical terms, this would be good if you needed to make a weigh-in for a tournament or something) but any longer and it's dangerous.

I did it and lost 7 lbs in the first week. But I was quickly sick of the food, was permanently thirsty and hit "the wall" whilst on a relatively easy bike ride.

So I stuffed loads of milk and banaanas down my face, felt great, and jacked the Atkins.

Atkins was designed for overweight individuals. As per Atkins new book he says those who are at their target body fat percentage and are maintaining may add as many carbs as they want as long as they continue to maintain their body wieght. If you being to put on pounds you need to reduce carbs.

On the Subject of Athletes and atkins, Atkins states there is no need for an athlete to be on the atkins diet as they should be able to burn off the carbs that they are injesting during exercise.

You must drink a lot of water on atkins because as you body fat decreases it is harder for your body to store water as it is usually stored in fat.

Also if you do not drink enough water it can be very hard on the kidneys. As the keytones are being expelled they can damage the kidneys if they are not flushed out of the system.

There are no studies that show negative effects of atkins over the long term. Studies have shown that people on atkins have lower bad cholesterol and higher good cholesterol. It is a very good diet for diabetics because of the low glycemic reactions of the foods.

Atkins made changes to the plan in the new book Atkins for Life. with the introduction of net carbs. Take the number of carbs and subtract fiber. This means many of the foods that were originally not allowed are now allowed including some fruit.

Side note, A study of bananas was done where it came out that there were more nutrients in a chocolate bar than in a banana.

Induction is the hardest as it is difficult for the body to switch over to the new diet.

                        hhhmm
my diet is based on atkins
I eat about 4000 calories a day, a shitload of fat and less then 100 g of carbs a day.....

I workout four an hour in the morning and an hour at night and I feel fine.

The thing is I eat all my carbs before 9 AM and then I have fat/protien meals for the rest of the day.

I still build muscle and strength and I have low bodyfat.

What im saying is your diet should be designed for you and what your body works best on, I prefer Getting my energy from fats and also its been shown fats help maintain testosterone production and repair.

but hey, other people I know have tried this and feel weak off the low carbs, whatever....But as earlier stated try this diet for short term for fat loss. I believe Atkins is just very low carbs,

If you wanna really loose fat fast do straight clynical ketogenic diet....

here this will explain it better then I can......

Everyone is if fussing about carbs and protein and crap, but the truth is you just have to balance what you eat... OMG what a new idea !!

In my opinion eating all protein is just as bad as eating all carbs. Personally my diet is probably 70% carbs and 30% protein. This is fine for me because I am a healthy 21 year old male who burns calories fast. But common sense should tell you that only eating meats/dairy/nuts is going to have an affect on your health. Your body NEEDS fruits and vegetables and yes CARBS to stay healthy !!

Sounds like a totally fat free diet.

Enjoy life. You have about 3 days left to live.
