Their camp claimed to be training bjj, just without a gi. But none of their fighters were as technical as the great bjj'ers of the time. Duarte and Tadeau were their most famous ones and the camp is pretty much dead.

I thought (but could be wrong) that Marco Ruas & his students; Pedro Rizzo etc used it as their ground game.

Also if memory serves, in Brazil the BJJ GJJ guys kind of feuded with the Luta Liva guys as the "best" fighting method.

Can someone confirm?

Yes, I remember hearing about a feud between the Luta Livre and the BJJ guys down in Brazil. I really never understood what LL was though, but I had the general impression that it resembled more submission wrestling than BJJ.
