Generally, people think of throws like the Judo throws which often involve clinches and big bangs.

Takedowns are a more general category including throws, double-legs, single-legs, and trips.

Basically, a takedown should put you in a dominant position over your opponent.

Ryanhall. If every time someone asks a question you direct ehm to a search engine then people will stop asking questions.

My way of sorting out the difference between the two would be:

          Takedown: Put opponent on floor
          Throw: Slam opponent on floor

The word "take" in takedown suggests that it means you go to the ground and take your opponent with you (in which case a takedown is a move in which both parties end up on the floor).

Firstoff, I almost always answer people's questions when I know enough to help them.

If every time someone asks a question you direct ehm to a search engine then people will stop asking questions.
Either that, or they'll read up a little, learn something, and then ask a more informed question. But I see your point.
