Read all the way up to black belt moves in any instructional book and then challenge the instructor of the school. When you tap him out your girlfriend will be really impressed.

Sure Kev. Reading an instruction manual will make you better than an instructor, sure.
How's Judo instructor John Holmes these days? Been getting much BJ help from him? BTW you were from Michigan last time....social engineering at its finest.

- Don't think that going harder and faster is gonna help you. 100% of the new guys who come train at our academy always start out slow, then they feel the power of BJJ, so they think that they're gonna use more speed and muscle to compensate for their lack of skill - it won't work. Relax, be loose and slow.
- Don't get in someone's guard and then stand up and try to ankle lock them. You won't get it. In fact, don't stand up in the guard.
- Expect to get 0wned for the first few months. Flat out dominated. This is your dues, pay them or go home.
- Did I already say to not use muscle or speed to try and compensate.
Bottom line is that you're gonna get wasted, repeatedly. Just go with it and don't worry about it. Understand that you have 0% chance and just BE THERE TO LEARN. The best way to learn is to roll for a few months without any training.
