nah not too old. Kickboxing would be no problem at all. I would wait for a respones from a muay thai practitioner for muay thai. If your going in the ring get a physical and doctor's opinion too.
ooops got disconected before i finished and it still posted!
yeah i was saying anyways...
i would really like to get into kickboxing on a more serious level and possibly compete.so do you think 26 is too old to start properly?
im in good shape and a good fitness level i just lack the flexability and fighting skillz at this stage
No, no, 26 is much too old. You're going to throw out a hip, or something.
Later...
rofl, I don't think he is too old since he is in shape. He can get ready to compete at 28 if he works hard enough. I'm only 21 so I dunno how it feels to be 5 years older. I am asuming around the same.
You are fine.
Im 35 and still fighting and holding my title while considering chasing others. I have seen a student who had his first fight at 40 beat his much younger opponent. I will say this though, you may find you heal a little slower and have to work a little harder or watch your diet a little more closely. However in your favour, most older fighters are more mature, and pay more attention to details and strategies. I would say go for it, you have nothing to lose but maybe a little weight and some skin off your shins :-)
When asked about Shakespeare:
"I ain't never heard of him. I suppose he's one of them foreign heavyweights. They're all lousy. Sure as hell I'll moider de bum."

Go for it! A good friend of mine started at 43! He didn't start competing until he was about 45-46. He's about 50 now and looking to hang them up. So if this is what you want to do keep your self healthy and in shape, and you'll be fine.
Wolverine are serious your friend started in his 40s that is great. I am now pushing 39 and thinking about starting to train. You just kicked me in my ASS I can still do this.

Give it a shot....as long as you have no medical problems or injuries that would effect your training then I think your age means nothing! Sure, things are not going to come easy for you, and it's going to be a lot of work. But the bottom line is that it will be extremely rewarding, and FUN!!!
Yea I think I have made my mind up I am going to give it a shot and see what happens. The main idea I have is not to do it for sport but to do it for fitness reasons. I have a school not too far form my home I had talked to the instrustor at the end of the year but never took the leap. I am going to start ASAP. Thanks again
Well since this last post I started my training well last night was my first session. OMG am I tired. I played football and ran track and thought that they were some tought workouts but the one I had last night was killer. I never knew I could jump rope let alone for 10 min. Well after all is said and done I am glad I started. I am going to be sore for the next few weeks but I will be well worth it. I have a class on Saturday they say it is even tougher then the ones during the week.
